Fans have waited a long time for the Sex and the City revival, And Just Like That. So it’s fair to say expectations were high when the series launched on streaming service BINGE today.

And wouldn’t you know it, our girl Carrie Bradshaw – played by the iconic, as always, Sarah Jessica Parker – has delivered on the talking points with just two episodes. One, actually.
This article clearly contains spoilers, so exit now if you’re not ready to chat about the first episode just yet. But if you are, let’s continue.
If you’ve watched the first episode of And Just Like That, you’ll know that Carrie’s husband and leading man of SATC since 1998 has died. Mr Big, played by Chris Noth, passed away at the end of the first episode in a shock twist. My group chat has never been more intense.
Fans knew a funeral scene would be coming after paparazzi photos caught the cast filming in New York. But, because Chris was spotted on-set over the course of filming, the showrunners managed to keep the surprise of which character had died under wraps until the premiere.
Many thought it would be Samantha Jones who died, as Kim Cattrall declined to return to the role, but instead her character is just hanging about in London because Carrie fired her. An issue for another day.
Instead, Mr Big hopped on a Peloton Bike and died. Not a great day for the Peloton marketing team.
For what it’s worth, Peloton’s Health & Wellness Advisory Council issued a statement to say that Mr Big’s “extravagant” lifestyle choices probably led to his demise and their classes could have helped delay his “cardiac event.” We’re not even kidding, they literally spoke about how much he liked steak and cocktails. How fun! Moving on.
Big and Carrie were due to be heading away on a trip when Charlotte (Kristin Davis) pleaded with her friend to come along to her daughter Lily’s (Cathy Ang) piano recital.
Looking to pass some time while he waited for Carrie to get back, Big completed an exercise class and then died of a sudden heart attack. Carrie returned home to find him, narrating the final line: “And just like that… Big died.”
And yes, this is the second time Lily has somehow been involved in one of the worst moments of Carrie’s life but I will stan Lily until the end.
Fans were shocked by the big reveal that Mr Big AKA John had passed – and that the show would be taking a very different direction than they had thought.
“Mr Big deserved better than death by Peloton,” wrote one fan.
“We waited all that time for Carrie and Big to be together just for y’all to kill him off girl I’m done,” added another.
“I haven’t been this mad over a show since Shonda killed McDreamy,” wrote a fan, alluding to Grey’s Anatomy.
Meanwhile, everyone from die-hard fans, to celebrities like Jonah Hill, seemed confused that Carrie had not tried CPR or called 911. You know, a typical “I found my husband dying” thing you should probably do.
We all couldn’t help but wonder… why? At the end of the day, it’s a TV show and clearly he’s dead and his death is needed for the storyline. But just so we’re all on the same page, in real life you should absolutely be calling emergency services. Please.
“Just got kicked out of the living room for laughing and saying that Carrie’s refusal to perform CPR is tantamount to manslaughter,” one fan joked on Twitter.
“Carrie been married to that old man and don’t know CPR smh,” wrote another.
“I’m watching Just Like That and I’m so pissed off cause Carrie could’ve called 911??? What was hugging him going to do??” said another.
While we can all have a laugh about the CPR thing, it’s clear the scene was still soul-crushing for fans who grew to love Mr Big over the course of six seasons and two films.
After years of watching Carrie and Big endure their on-again-off-again romance, fans were ready to see them living out their happily ever after only to be crushed in episode one of 10.
But, it’s important to remember that we’re revisiting the story 11 years after the events of the second film and these two have had many happy years together.
And, we the fans will always have Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler) – we hope.
