Bachelorette fans collectively face palmed on Wednesday night when Becky Miles decided to keep kite surfing instructor Adrian on the show, despite the pair clearly wanting different things in life.
“I’m at the stage where I want to settle down a bit, I want to buy a house, I want something serious after this,” Becky told Adrian at the cocktail party.
However, Adrian informed her that he prefers to “live in the moment” and hang with “the boys,” which didn’t impress the older Miles sister.
“I don’t even know what Adrian is doing, he’s not taking this seriously at all,” Becky mused.
“Right now I don’t know if I can see a future with him.”
So when Becky kept Adrian in the mansion over eligible bachelors including Saj, Andrew, Rudy and Trent, fans were understandably confused and miffed to say the least.
“Watching Becky pick Adrian reminds me of all my friends who complain they can’t find a good man but keep picking d***heads who want different things,” one person tweeted.
Others couldn’t help but notice that Adrian’s antics seemed like the type from someone who was desperate for a stint on Bachelor in Paradise.
“Can’t wait to see Adrian on Bach in Paradise and rant-tweet about him in the future,” one person penned on social media.
“Adrian is in this to get an invitation to the Bachelor in Paradise. More parties, more time with the boys and no need to wear a shirt,” another remarked.
Others took a more cynical approach and mused that Becky’s decision was not even her’s at all, but rather that of the production team in a bid for more drama.
“Adrian gets a rose… producer bulls*** … chuck him out… string it along until tomorrow nights drama…oh FFS!” ranted one fan.
“Ah Adrian, the producers ‘drama’ vote,” stated another.
Georgia Love, who was the Bachelorette in 2016, previously revealed that when it comes to the final stages of the show, producers aren’t involved in the decisions but they do ask the Bachelorette to keep the big characters in the competition, at least early on.
“So straight out answer is for that in terms of talking about the runner-up is no, absolutely not. So you’re 100 per cent on your own when it gets down to the serious stage,” she revealed in 2019 whilst filling in on the HIT network’s Heidi, Xavier and Ryan.
“But when it’s earlier on when there’s lots of people, they will ask you to carry a couple of people along if they’re giving them good content. So I don’t think this is particularly surprising a heap of people.”
“When there’s like the villain, obviously The Bachelor or The Bachelorette wouldn’t like them, but you keep them on because they’re creating good content.”
One man that fans are convinced will win Becky’s heart is cafe owner Pete, who had a steamy kiss with her during the photoshoot date.
In fact, he’s the bookies’ favourite and has impressive odds from both Sportsbet and TAB at 1.35 and 1.15, respectively.
Guess we’ll just have to wait and see who her Mr Right is…
