… time he thought about quitting Twitter
Every day. But then it’s impossible to quit, and I know that Twitter can be a hideous experience, but the secret is you block and mute people. You treat it like weeding and gardening. I think I’ve blocked and muted thousands of people now. For all the horror that exists on Twitter, there’s also such joy – I find out about news and cool people I wouldn’t have known about otherwise. There’s more good than s— on Twitter, you just tend to remember and feel the s— more.
… time he laughed so hard he snorted
With my family over Christmas, because Cantonese, the language we were raised with, is such an easily vulgar language that we started impersonating what it would sound like to do dirty talk in Cantonese. It was so disgusting!
… TV show he binge-watched
RuPaul’s Drag Race. I only got into it last year properly and watched all 10 seasons and three-and-a-half All Stars seasons. It’s consumed my life, but I have no regrets.
… time he danced all night
At a wedding between my friend James Colley and Miranda Tapsell. Did I lead the charge on the dance floor? No, they were. Have you seen Miranda Tapsell dance – she was leading the charge.
… time he pampered himself
That’s a good question. I think even just standing in the shower and staring vacantly into the middle distance, that can be a form of pampering yourself. That’s my daily pamper.
… time he had writer’s block
That’s kind of every day, but my problem isn’t writer’s block it’s more writer’s diarrhoea – you write too much on the page and end up not knowing where to go from there. And I think writer’s block is just a form of exhaustion where you’ve been looking at the page too long. I tend to take a break, have a swim and come back to page anew.
