Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk have officially called it quits after months of speculation, whipped up by romance rumours about Cooper and his A Star Is Born co-star Lady Gaga.
An insider tells WHO Cooper and Shayk have officially ended their relationship and are amicably working out how to share custody of their daughter, Lea De Seine, 2.
After a steamy performance of their duet ‘Shallow’ at the Academy Awards in February, Gaga, who had just split from her fiancé, Christian Carino, was forced to shut down lies and set the record straight during a post-Oscars appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “Yes, people saw love. And guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see,” she scoffed when asked about their chemistry.
“A Star is Born, it’s a love story … We worked all week on that performance.” As speculation continued over her link to Cooper’s break-up with Shayk, the 33-yearold singer lost her composure in front of fans who heckled her about the matter in Las Vegas on June 8. Before performing ‘Shallow’, the breakout hit from the film which united Cooper and Gaga, she snapped at the crowd, “And one more thing, be kind or f–k off.”
While Gaga has praised Cooper for supporting her professionally, a source tells Hollywood Life the stars have also been a personal support for each other. “Bradley has worn his heart on his sleeve through his relationship struggles and Gaga was there for him all along the way to listen and provide any advice she could give.
“Bradley knows her as [her real name] Stefani [Germanotta] and they built that friendship through filming and they have had many talks because honestly, they both have had relationships that have gone sour.
They have experienced similar struggles,” the source told Hollywood Life. And Us Weekly reported a source saying Cooper, 44, and Shayk, 33, had relationship struggles that have “nothing to do with Gaga.” Reporting by Page Six mirrored the sentiment: “They are miserable together … They have been for months. He doesn’t drink and is into spirituality. She wants to go out,” an insider said.
According to E! News, Cooper and model Shayk, who started dating in April 2015, have been fighting for some time. “They wanted to stay together for their daughter, but neither of them are very happy,” said a source.
“Things get a little bit better, but then they find themselves back in the same place of questioning whether being a couple is what’s best. It’s very difficult to completely walk away. Since Bradley and Irina have always been very private about their relationship few knew there was really for sure something going on.”
Cooper had a big year in 2018 with the release of A Star is Born, which was nominated for eight Academy Awards and marked his directorial debut. While at the BAFTAs earlier this year, where Cooper accepted the award for best original music, he paid his respects to Shayk, who also travelled to the event, for her patience throughout the year-long creative process. “Most of all I have to thank Irina, for putting up with me for all
the music I was trying to make in our basement for a year,” Cooper said.
Indeed, after the awards season, the actor committed to focusing on his family, a source told WHO in April. “Bradley spends every day with his family,” the source said. “Most days, Bradley and Irina take Lea out for activities together. Sometimes they just stroll on the beach. Bradley and Irina seem great. He has been all about his family.” Still, it wasn’t enough. Despite the split, a source now tells WHO, “They care about each other, but the romance has changed to more of a partnership with their child being the star of the show.”
