Fertile Future: Five celebs who froze their eggs

Meet the celebs who have taken fertility into their own hands.

In recent years we’ve seen a growing number of celebrities take their fertility into their own hands, electing to have their eggs frozen.

Egg freezing is a slightly complex process that involves hormone injections and medications over a period of time, before the eggs are retrieved in a medical procedure.

Although difficult, and often pricey, the procedure gives women more freedom to live without worry that time will ‘run out’ for them to have children.

Here are some of the awesome women celebs who have chosen to freeze their eggs.

Brittany Hockley

We first heard about Brittany Hockley’s consideration for egg-freezing when she mentioned it in passing on her podcast, Life Uncut. In an episode where herself and co-host Laura Byrne interviewed a fertility specialist, Britt explained she had been trying to research the process. Fans got confirmation in May 2021, when the influencer posted a reel of different hairstyles, explaining that she was blaming the need to constantly change her hair on the ‘hormones’.

“Midway through my injections for egg freezing and I’ve been to @bondiblondes every second day with some ridiculous request,” Britt wrote.

In June she posted a video of herself in recovery following the procedure, talking nonsense as the anaesthetic wore off.

With Brittany’s partner, Jordan Thompson, being eight years her junior, it might be some time before we see the pair have children. However, we’re stoked to see Britt taking the matter into her own hands!

Sophie Monk has also previously opened up about her struggles with fertility. Back in 2018, she shared on her Instagram stories that she was in hospital and beginning the process of freezing her eggs. The TV star was open about wanting a baby during her stint on The Bachelorette, but remained unlucky in love, breaking things off with her winner, Stu Laundy, just months after the finale aired.

“I haven’t told anyone but the last 14 days I’ve been injecting myself to freeze my eggs so I’m going to check in a second and see how many I’ve laid, hopefully a lot,” Sophie said to her followers.

“For anyone thinking about freezing their eggs like me for preventative or medical reasons, I’ve got to say I had no side effects whatsoever.”

Sophie has been open about the process, discussing her reasoning in an interview with Body and Soul.

“My motto is: if you can put out a fire before it starts, then do it,” she said.

“That’s why I recently had my eggs frozen. I’d like to start a family one day but you never know what’s around the corner, so I did it to prevent trouble down the track. I’m fortunate enough that I could afford to have it done,” the singer explained.

Since then, Sophie has become engaged to her partner, Joshua Gross. Hopefully we see some adorable babies from this pair in the near future!

Rebel Wilson

Rebel spoke openly about her egg-freezing procedure in 2019 while guest-starring on the Kyle & Jackie O Show.

“It’s a back-up plan. Career women should have options, you know?” she said.

“A lot of women, especially in their 30s or if they can in their 40s, should think about doing it now. I know a lot of my friends here in Hollywood are doing it,” the actress told the hosts.

She shared a little more in 2021, simply saying on Instagram that she had received some bad news in regard to her fertility.

“I got some bad news today and didn’t have anyone to share it with… but I guess I gotta tell someone,” she wrote.

“To all the women out there struggling with fertility, I feel ya.”

Rita Ora

British pop star and the newest judge on Australia’s The Voice, Rita Ora actually froze her eggs quite early, in her 20s, after her doctor recommended it.

“He said, ‘You’re healthy now and it would be great; why not put them away and then you never have to worry about it again?’” Rita said in an interview on Sunrise.

Egg freezing is most effective when done while the woman is below the age of 35, so if affordability allows it, your 20s are a great time to freeze.

Former MAFS star Claire Verrall froze her eggs in 2019, at age 35. She shared a video to Instagram of her friends helping her with her first hormone injection. On stories now saved on a highlight reel on her Instagram, Claire goes into the entirety of the process, going as far as to show how much it would cost her, her internal scans and footage from before and after the retrieval process.
