AFLW star Abbey Holmes baby news: “The ultimate teammate is joining us!”

Former AFLW star and footy commentator Abbey Holmes is gearing up for a big year ahead after announcing she and her husband Keegan Brooksby are expecting their first child together.

“This year is certainly set to be our biggest & best yet, with the ultimate little teammate joining us in June!!” she posted to Instagram on January 1.

“We can’t wait to meet you #babybrooksby.”

The couple shared the news with a carousel of photos showing Holmes’ growing baby bump.

The 33-year-old discovered she was pregnant shortly after running the New York marathon in November 2024.

Needless to say, the news came as a “bit of a shock given what I had just put my body through”.

“But I’m in awe of what the human body can do,” she told the Herald Sun.

“Keegan and I told our families at Christmas, which was a really special time for us all.

“We wanted to share our news with as many people as possible in person, so we’ve spent the last few weeks doing that. There were plenty of tears, that’s for sure.

“I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy a beautiful start to my pregnancy, and we’re soaking up every moment.”

Holmes joined the AFLW for its inaugural season in 2017, playing for Adelaide. When she stopped playing in 2018, she joined Channel 7 as part of their commentary team for the AFL and AFLW.

The South Australian competed in Australian Survivor in 2019, placing fifth, and returned for an “all-stars” season in 2020.

Who is Abbey Holmes married to?

Abbey Holmes is married to former AFL player Keegan Brooksby, 34.

He played for Gold Coast, West Coast and Hawthorn and now has a coaching role at Hawthorn in the AFLW.

Their pair met via a dating app in 2017 and tied the knot in the Northern Territory in November 2023.
