Angelina Jolie has scored herself a victory in her long-running legal battle with ex-husband Brad Pitt.

According to court documents, a Los Angeles Superior court judge sided with the actress, 50, on May 4, ruling that Brad, 62, can’t force her to turn over a set of private emails tied to the sale of her stake in the French winery, Château Miraval, they purchased together back in 2008.
“This is an important victory for Ms. Jolie,” Angelina’s attorney, Paul Murphy, shared in a statement. “The decision shows that Mr. Pitt was completely out of bounds when he sought access to obviously privileged documents.”

Last October, Brad’s legal team submitted into evidence several communications to and from his ex’s team regarding the 2021 sale of her stake in the property – which he claims she sold despite a prior agreement that neither would do so unless the other person approved. At the time, the actor argued that certain messages – including ones involving Angelina’s business team – shouldn’t be shielded and should be handed over.
“Remember, he initially demanded 126 privileged documents, but then backtracked to 22, and now Mr. Pitt is getting nothing, zero,” the statement continued. “This is part of Mr. Pitt’s pattern of demanding control over anything Angelina, including control over her communications with her own attorneys. We are extremely gratified that the both the Court of Appeal and the trial court ultimately put a stop to it.”
The legal win came just a day before Angelina listed her $41 million California compound for sale.
The actress purchased the Los Feliz home in 2017, a year after she filed for divorce from Pitt, due to their ongoing custody battle over their six children: Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 17.

However, she has previously expressed her desire to not live in LA, telling The Hollywood Reporter in August 2024 that she is only there “because I have to be here from a divorce”. Now, with her youngest children set to turn 18 on July 12, Jolie is ready to make a move.
“She’s ready for a life that isn’t centered in Los Angeles,” a source told People magazine of the Eternals star. “There are a lot of projects she’s excited about and she’s feeling good.”
