With a career spanning almost six decades, Cher has cemented herself as one of the biggest music icons of the 20th Century.
While she may be best known for her time entertaining audiences on The Sonny & Cher Show, her on-screen chemistry and real-life romance with then-husband Sonny Bono captivated many fans of the musical duo.
Although the time of Sonny and Cher may have long passed, loyal fans are still curious as to who has captured the singer’s heart in the present day.
Who is Cher dating?
Cher is currently in a relationship with Universal Music Group executive Alexander Edwards.
The pair were first linked together after they were photographed holding hands leaving a West Hollywood restaurant in November 2022 – just over two months after they first crossed paths at Paris Fashion Week.
Shortly after the images of the couple were released, Cher took to X to confirm the rumours of their romance, simply sharing a photo of the 38-year-old alongside the caption, “Alexander ❤️.”
While she appeared to be happily in love with her new beau, Cher fans were quick to take to social media to express their concern over the couple’s 40-year age gap. Despite the outpouring of criticism, the 78-year-old singer was quick to clap back at fan speculation.
“As we all know… I WASN’T BORN YESTERDAY… Haters are gonna hate. Doesn’t matter that we’re happy and not bothering anyone,” she wrote to X, adding, “I’M IN ❤️ NOT BLINDED BY IT. KNOW WHAT I KNOW. SMOKE DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN 🔥.”
One month later, the Moonstruck star shared a photo of what fans immediately guessed to be her engagement ring alongside the caption, “THERE R NO WORDS. ALEXANDER, A.E,” however, she has not since commented further on the couple’s potential engagement.
In December 2022, Cher first spoke publicly about her romance with Alexander, telling The Kelly Clarkson Show, “On paper, it’s kind of ridiculous, but in real life, we get along great. He’s fabulous, and I don’t give men qualities that they don’t deserve.”
Having kept the details of their relationship private, the singer later shared more about her relationship in December of the following year – offering a rare insight into their relationship dynamic after one year together.
“I hate to talk about how happy I am, but no, we have a great time together,” she told Today.
“We can talk about music. We can talk about everything. He’s got a great sense of humour. He’s got the cutest son in the world ever. We just get each other,” the singer continued, referencing Alexander’s child with his ex-girlfriend, Amber Rose.
Who has Cher been married to?
Cher has previously been married twice – tying the knot with singer Sonny Bono and musician Gregg Allman.
Sonny and Cher first met in Los Angeles in 1962. As a result of Sonny’s working relationship with producer Phil Spector, the couple teamed up to pursue a career in music, with the pair going on to release hits such as I Got You Babe, as well as starring in The Sonny & Cher Show.
The couple married in 1964, welcoming their first child, Chaz Bono, in March 1969.
In February 1974, Sonny filed for divorce from Cher citing irreconcilable differences, with the divorce later being finalised in June 1975.
Four days after her divorce from Sonny Bono was finalised, Cher married The Allman Brothers Band star Gregg Allman.
While they may have tied the knot quickly after her first divorce, the couple’s relationship was equally as short-lived, with Cher and Gregg divorcing nine days later.
The following year, Cher welcomed her second child, son Elijah Blue, with Gregg Allman on July 10, 1976.
