Better Homes and Gardens host Johanna Griggs’ husband Todd Huggins is her toy boy – well, sort of.

The popular TV presenter turns 51 in October – but Huggins only just celebrated the big 5-0 earlier this year.

Griggs, whose show is up for its second Logie for Best Lifestyle Program this year, gave an insight into their loving marriage and happy family life in an Instagram post celebrating her husband’s 50th birthday.

The couple celebrated Huggins’ major birthday milestone by wining and dining their way around the Hunter Valley in NSW.

“And what did @toddyhuggins 50th birthday weekend include?” she wrote on Instagram in June 2024.

“Well … total chaos, madness and endless laughs with this beautiful bunch,” she wrote, sharing various celebratory group shots.

“In amongst the tennis and the board games, fire pits and s’mores, incredible food and endless entertainment — we also enjoyed the world’s most fabulous wine tour and the most ridiculously decadent and delicious lunch …Todd hasn’t stopped smiling for days.”

Griggs shared photos of the birthday posse soaking up the sunshine, tasting wines, playing board games and posing for selfies.

In a separate post, Griggs wrote about the “glamping” tents they had stayed in for the birthday celebrations.

“Warning: more posts coming … as it was my beautiful husband’s 50th birthday this past weekend … and a wonderful excuse for a massive celebration,” she wrote, sharing a video from inside the glamping tent they stayed in.

“We had an absolute ball … These glamping tents are next level … everything you can possibly imagine is supplied, and then every extra luxury you never even thought of is also included. We were all blown away.”

It seems like a fun time was had by all! Here’s all you need to know about this tight-knit family.

Is Johanna Griggs married?

Yes! Griggs is married to building foreman Todd Huggins, who she wed in November 2006.

The pair married in a private ceremony at their home in Sydney.

They were introduced by mutual friends – with Griggs once admitting she wished she’d met him much earlier.

”I feel so lucky I met him but I wish I met him earlier,” she told Now To Love back in 2018, describing him as ”pretty exceptional”.

”He’s awesome. He’s such a ripper. He’s just the most awesome person I know. He’s funny, he’s the first person to take the mickey out of himself, he’s kind, genuine and just a stand-up human being.

”You can rely on him. I don’t think there’s many men who would have a wife who spends 90 per cent of their life travelling and never be insecure about it because he’s so confident in his own skin.”

What happened to Johanna Griggs’ husband?

In 2023, Huggins had a health scare when he was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma. A simple surgery lead to complications, with Huggins developing a nasty infection.

“He had a skin cancer removed and they didn’t get enough of the margins around it, so when he went back in, he managed to pick up a random infection, which is not uncommon in hospitals,” Griggs told 7LIFE.

“He absolutely lucked out; it was very hairy stuff for a couple of weeks. But he’s back, fighting fit, 100 per cent again.”

She added that there was one good thing to come out of the worrying time.

“If anything, I think it was an apt time to remind people to go and get their skin checked,” she said.

“I think that was one of the things during COVID that fell off the radar — people getting breast checks and skin checks, going to the dentist, all the health things that we are usually in the habit of doing regularly.

“We used to be so vigilant with skin checks because of my background in sport and with health — you didn’t want to miss anything. But we realised he hadn’t actually gone and had a skin check throughout the duration of COVID. So it was a chance to say to people, ‘hey listen, put it back on your agenda and make it a priority’.”

Who was Johanna Griggs first married to?

Griggs was married to actor Gary Sweet (Blue Heelers, Police Rescue) from 1995 to 1999.

Their relationship was played out in Australian newspapers and magazines; ”There are very few people in Australia who can move magazines for them,” she said in 2018 when reflecting back on their marriage.

”I’ve had a 25-year relationship with the public, and Gary even longer.”

Griggs admitted she felt like a ”failure” when her first marriage broke down.

”When a marriage ends, you feel like you’re such a failure in that aspect, but at the same time it really uncomplicated our lives,” she told The Australian Women’s Weekly.

Does Johanna Griggs have children?

Yes, Griggs has two sons, Joe and Jesse, with former husband Gary Sweet.

Griggs became a grandmother at the ripe old age of 44 when Joe and his partner Katie welcomed their baby boy Jax in 2018.

What sport did Johanna Griggs do?

Johanna Griggs was a professional swimmer before turning to a career in television.

She rose to fame early in life as the first female Australian swimmer to break the 30-second barrier for the 50-metre backstroke.

She won a bronze medal in the 100-metre backstroke at the 1990 Commonwealth Games aged 16, and won the 50-metre backstroke race at the Australian Swimming Championships in 1993.

Her career was cut short by a battle with chronic fatigue syndrome. A bout of pleurisy landed her in hospital, causing her to withdraw from the 1992 Olympic trials. She announced her retirement from swimming in 1993.
