Madonna has shared a heartbreaking tribute on social media following the death of her younger brother Christopher Ciccone.
Christopher, who was 63, passed away following a battle with cancer on Friday in Michigan his rep confirmed to TMZ.
His husband, British hairdresser Ray Thacker was “faithfully by his side” when he died.

Madonna wrote a lengthy tribute to her brother, telling fans: “My brother Christopher is gone. He was the closest human to me for so long. It’s hard to explain our bond, but it grew out of an understanding that we were different and society was going to give us a hard time for not following the status quo.”
“My brother was right by my side,” she added. “He was a painter a poet and a visionary. I admired him. He had impeccable taste. And a sharp tongue, Which he sometimes used against me but I always forgave him. We soared the highest heights together and floundered in the lowest lows. Somehow, we always found each other again and we held hands and we kept dancing.”

The singer touched on the complicated relationship she shared with her brother, who was a key collaborator in her career, working as a backup dancer, art director and tour director before a fallout saw him write a 2008 tell-all about his famous sibling titled Life With My Sister Madonna.
“The last few years have not been easy,” she admitted in her tribute. “We did not speak for some time but when my brother got sick, we found our way back to each other. I did my best to keep him alive as long as possible..he was in so much pain towards the end.
“I’m glad he’s not suffering anymore. There will never be anyone like him. I know he’s dancing somewhere.💔”

Christopher’s death comes less than two weeks after the passing of Madonna’s stepmother, Joan, who died after a short battle with a “very aggressive cancer.”
Madonna, who is one of seven siblings, also lost her older brother Anthony in February last year. He was 66.
