The Cyrus Family have long been household names. And despite whether you know all the members of the talented family, or just Billy Ray and Miley, chances are you know how close they all were.

From working together to singing together, shooting family reality TV shows and sharing close family moments on social media – the Cyrus family appeared closer than other Hollywood siblings and parents.

Which is why, after news broke in 2022 that Billy Ray and Tish were splitting after 28 years of marriage, fans were devastated to see the siblings’ close relationships falter.

After two previous divorce filings, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus finally decided to go their separate ways in April 2022. Tish filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences,” according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.

“We have grown up together, raised a family we can be so proud of, and it is now time to create our own paths,” the former couple told PEOPLE in a joint statement. After marrying in 1993 and welcoming three children together, Billy Ray filed for divorce in 2010 before withdrawing is petition and Tish filed for divorce in 2013 before the pair rekindled their romance after attending couples therapy together.

Following their official split, both Tish and Billy Ray found love again, with Billy Ray announcing his engagement to Aussie singer Firerose in November 2022 and Tish announcing her engagement to actor Dominic Purcell in May 2023.

However, following Billy Ray’s subsequent divorce from Fire Rose, there’s been one drama after another for the Cyrus family in recent years, and now the siblings are banding together as they plead with their estranged dad,
to urgently get help.

What’s going on with Miley Cyrus and her family?

The latest feud kicked off after the country star’s “trainwreck” performance at President Trump’s inauguration festivities. He blamed technical difficulties, but Billy Ray’s gruff voice and dishevelled appearance still raised red flags, prompting Trace, 35, to take to Instagram with an emotional open letter to his dad.

“It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you,” he wrote. “Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us all away.”

According to a Page Six source, behind the scenes, Trace discussed the post with his sisters, Brandi, 37, Miley, 32, and Noah, 25, who agreed with the message to their dad and “signed off” on it being made public.

The post continued, “We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew & hoping for the day he returns. You’re not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it.”

Trace explained he’s been “clean from alcohol” for over a year and a half, adding, “I don’t know what you’re struggling with exactly but … I’d love to help you.”

Billy Ray, 63, hasn’t addressed any substance abuse issues directly, but in the past, he has admitted to having a problem with “excessive alcohol” early in his career.

Trace, who was adopted by Billy Ray in 1993 after he married Trace’s mum, Tish, pointed out he was speaking from “a place of love” and “fear that the world may lose you far too soon”. But he claimed his dad responded by threatening legal action.

“You should be ashamed of yourself. I will always love you but I no longer respect you as a man,” Trace responded, again in a post tagging Billy Ray on Instagram.

Amid the family drama, Billy Ray broke his silence in a surprisingly pleasant way – posting the music video for his 2009 track ‘Somebody Said a Prayer’, in which Trace plays a troubled teenager.

“Praying for my family,” Billy Ray wrote on the caption. “For my children … sons and daughters … and their mother. Let this moment be the start of healing for us all. The past does not equal the future.”

What happened between Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus?

For Miley, the concern for her dad isn’t enough to make her want to repair their fractured relationship. Page Six claims the once tight-knit duo haven’t been on good terms “for a long time” and Miley has “no interest” in fixing things between them.

Rumours of Miley’s estrangement with Billy Ray began when she took Tish’s side in their bitter divorce in 2022, and since then, the rift has only widened. Miley stopped following her dad on Instagram and didn’t go to his wedding to now ex-wife Firerose in 2023, and the singer has had to step back from family disputes for her own wellbeing.

“Miley used to feel overwhelmed by the family drama. She worked hard to remove herself. She’s not about to get involved again,” an insider told People magazine.

When it comes to little sister Noah, it’s a different story. In his post, Trace revealed Noah has “desperately” wanted Billy Ray to be part of her life, and the Page Six source adds she only “wants the best for him”.

Of Billy Ray’s six children, only Braison, 30, seems to be in his corner. Billy Ray has gushed about his “very talented” son producing his next album, while Braison said, “I’ve spent this past year getting to know my dad better than I ever have.”

He’s seemingly playing peacemaker, telling People of the feud, “I don’t have any bad feelings towards anyone in my family.”

Who attended Tish Cyrus’ wedding?

Although the blended family had initially remained quiet on Billy Ray and Tish’s split, it appeared the pair’s five children (Billy adopted Tish’s two children from a previous relationship) were not entirely supportive of their parent’s new relationships following their divorce.

As internet rumours swirled, Miley Cyrus and her siblings seemed to confirm the tense family tensions at Tish’s wedding in August 2023. Brandi, Trace and Miley – Tish’s three oldest children were all in attendance. But Noah and Braison took to Instagram to publically confirm they were not attending the nuptials, with Noah even wearing a Billy Ray shirt in a thinly veiled swipe.

Eldest brother Trace seemingly responded to his sibling’s snub by sharing a throwback photo of himself, Miley and Brandi smiling in a cute photo with their mum, of which Trish also reposed to her own Instagram story.

This wasn’t the first time the Cyrus family’s ‘feud’ made headlines. When Tish filed for divorce in April, Noah blocked her mum on Instagram. In June Noah and Brandi unfollowed each other on social media and Braison does not currently follow Tish or Brandi online. To further complicate matters, Miley unfollowed her dad shortly after news of her parent’s separation went public in 2022.

Although there may have been some shady Instagram posts that alluded to the family’s troubles, the Cyrus family have kept many details out of the public eye. However, Tish did open up about how daughter Miley ‘saved her’ amidst her divorce during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast.

Noah was born in 2000 and is the youngest child of Billy and Tish. A child actor and now a successful singer, the youngest Cyrus member has been close with her siblings before her parent’s divorce.

In October 2022 she brought her brother Trace on stage to perform together and in 2017 she performed alongside Miley and Billy Ray. Although she and Miley were close, she admitted that living in her sister’s professional shadow was difficult.

“Everyone gave me such a hard time for having a hard time being Miley’s little sister. … It was absolutely unbearable,” she revealed in an Instagram Live in 2020.

“That was something I heard my whole life, every single day, my whole life. It was either that or that I wasn’t enough in some way, whether it was the way I look or the way I am. Like I said the other day, sometimes I feel like I don’t even breathe right.”
