As if meeting friends and family of the guy you’ve been dating isn’t nerve-wracking enough, imagine getting a serious grilling from his two besties… who open with asking your feels on marriage and babies.

So. Damn. Awkward.

WATCH: Matt Agnew’s friend Kate RIPS into Abbie

Lucky for finalist Chelsie McLeod, Bachelor Matt Agnew’s mates are basically as in love with her as he is, and all from one little meeting.

Literally, this mate date could not have gone more perfectly for everyone’s favourite Chels, who won over Matt’s friend Jason within seconds.

“I’d love to see Matt and Chelsie together. I think they’d make a great couple, they’d really integrate well with our friendship circle,” he said in a piece to camera. “And I think it would be a great foundation for a relationship.”

And, yes, he uses the ‘W’ word, telling Matt he can see Chelsie as more of a “wife and a girlfriend” than something more short-term… which is what he predicts with Abbie Chatfield.

Matt’s friend Kate is also a big Chelsie fan.

Telling him she saw zero red flags during her interaction with engineer Chelsie, Kate gave Matt his advice:

“Don’t be scared that there’s someone ticking all your boxes, somebody that might be too good to be true.”

It was a very different story when the pair met the other lady in the final run to win Matt’s heart – Abbie Chatfield.

I think Abbie would be a great fit in the short-term for Matt but I’m not sure if Matt’s thought about this with the long-term in mind,” Jason explained.

And you know Kate’s not a fan

“If I’m honest, I think I’m a bit concerned that Abbie doesn’t really know what she wants,” Kate told Matt in no uncertain terms. “She is a fair bit younger… and yes, age is just a number but I think maybe she’s still got a fair bit of self-discovery to do and my concerns from last time I met her haven’t been… She hasn’t changed my mind completely.”

Though tonight was our first time meeting Jason, and we didn’t get to see any of Matt Agnew’s family members make an appearance on The Bachelor, we’ve gotten to know his BFF Kate over the last few months.

“Kate is one of my best mates,” Matt told us on the show. “We have known each other for over 20 years, we have shared a load of memories together and I am delighted to be part of her groom’s party next year. Kate knows me. She knows my life in Melbourne.”

We were first introduced to the astrophysicist’s childhood friend during one of the early group dates. The blonde beauty was brought into the mansion as the 32-year-old’s wing woman and was tasked with deciphering who she thought Matt had the best connection with.

“I am really excited for her to meet and get to know the girls. I trust her explicitly. I brought Kate along to have a friend there, a wing woman because at this point I feel like I have some real strong connections with a lot of the girls,” Matt said before he introduced her to all the ladies vying for his affection.

Agreeing that Chelsie McLeod and Matt had the most in common, she made it pretty clear from the get-go that she wasn’t a fan of this year’s villain Abbie Chatfield.

“Abbie seems lovely but she said in one sentence that marriage isn’t necessarily the be-all and end all for her, and then in another part of the conversation was that she’d be ready in five years,” she told Matt during their debrief. “don’t think she is here for the same reasons as you. I think she is saying what you want to hear.”

Matt was understandably shook.

It’s a bit of a bombshell, to be honest.”

But it wasn’t enough to get Abbie— who’s been at the centre of basically every drama we’ve seen so far this season— sent home.

While, of course, I value Kate’s opinion, I know what Abbie and I have,” revealed Matt, “and I’m not sure that I’m ready to throw that all away.”
