Love for their 11-week-old daughter Luna Simone is the reason Chrissy Teigen and John Legend will ultimately learn how to swim.
“I was in the pool today,” Teigen, 30, told WHO at the Revolve summer house in Southampton, New York, on Monday, where she was hosting a Fourth of July barbecue.
“I can’t swim, but I’m trying to learn for Luna, of course,” she adds. “There is nothing I want to do more than to get her into the water and for her to learn to swim.”
The drive to teach Luna to swim is pushing Teigen and husband Legend, 37 — who was by his wife’s side at the event — into the water.
“John can’t swim, either,” she explains. “And we don’t want to be helpless in any way, so we’re going to try to learn for Luna. We’re going to have someone come to the house.”
The model, television host and cookbook author also indicates that she and her husband’s inabilities to swim aren’t based on fear, but circumstance.
“I have no fear of water. John has no fear of water,” she says. “Or animals, or sharks or what have you. We just didn’t have water in our face when we were growing up.”
Teigen continues of her and Legend’s past experiences with water, “It wasn’t something where we were dunked. I just want to make sure that she feels that she can cope with it.”
And it sounds like her daughter may not have to wait too long to start her training. When asked if she wants baby Luna to become an early swimmer, Teigen answers emphatically, “Absolutely!”
