Back in March when Dami Im was announced as Australia’s representative in the Eurovision Song Contest, a humbled but excited Im said, “As much as I’m just over the moon and kind of feeling really dreamy about this, I’m also going in with my serious face.”
That game plan has worked spectacularly as Im performed “Sound of Silence” in Semi Final 2 for an enthusiastic live audience of more than 16,000 at Stockholm’s Ericsson Globe arena. Needing to place in the top 10 to move onto the Grand Final, Australia received enough points to land in second place on the night.
“Such concentration!” gushed SBS co-host Julia Zamiro on Twitter, posting a photo of Im at dress rehearsals for her big moment.

While Australia cannot vote for Im, citizens can still have their vote heard immediately following the last performance of the Grand Final, airing live on SBS at 5 AM on Sunday, May 15.
Fortune is favouring Australia — oddsmakers had Im making the top 5 going into Semi Final 2 — now she is second only to Russia’s Sergey Lazarev dance-stompin’ “You Are the Only One” to win it all.
