Delta Goodrem loves being surrounded by loved ones during the festive season, and after a tough year she’s looking forward to celebrating Christmas with them more than ever.
“It’s been a really unpredictable year and, like a lot of people, I haven’t seen my family,” the 36-year-old tells WHO.
“I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that we will all be able to be together at Christmas time.”
As a surprise for fans, Goodrem unexpectedly dropped a new album, Only Santa Knows, last month. It features two original new tracks and 11 festive covers, with Aussie legend Olivia Newton-John lending her vocals to original hit Merry Christmas To You.
“I hope the music brings you joy and puts us all in good spirits, regardless of everything going on around us,” Goodrem shared on Twitter upon its release.
While it’s no surprise that Goodrem loved singing carols while growing up, she admits she has a new favourite.
“This Christmas, I have to say that my favourite Christmas carol is the original title song of my new album called Only Santa Knows,” she says.
“If I was to share with you what my Christmases were like growing up, it would be through the lyrics of that song. The cookies you leave for Santa, or the carrots outside for reindeer – and that I truly believed in the magic of Christmas and still do.”
As the icing on the (Christmas) cake, Goodrem will be taking to the stage at Sydney Opera House where she will perform songs from her new album with some celebrity guests for a TV special called Christmas with Delta.
(Only Santa Knows is available to stream now; Christmas with Delta premiers on Sat., Dec. 12, 7.30pm on Nine and 9Now)
Earlier this week, Delta gave fans an insight into the exciting projects she’ll be taking on in the new year.
“2021 here we come!” the singer-songwriter wrote on Instagram.
“This has been a dream for a very long time and I’m so excited to share that I’ve launched my own production company, Atled Productions, and together with my longtime partners and friends at @channel9 we will be creating and producing entertainment projects.
She added: “My team and I are excited to partner with Nine on this new chapter and I’m so proud to share with you our first project, Christmas With Delta. We’ve got some great things in development that I can’t wait to share with you soon!”
The singer also reflected on her nine year stint as a coach on The Voice ahead of the new season that will be airing on Channel Seven.
“As we fast approach the end of this most unpredictable year, I reflect on the silver lining for me, personally – pushing myself creatively and trying new things. I am coming for you 2021 and I couldn’t be more excited,” she continued.
“What a ride we had red chair! One of the most powerful gifts of my nine year journey on The Voice has been finding my own voice amongst all of it.”
Delta finished by saying: “The heart, the dreams people shared, the exceptional talent and the constant inspiration of being around music – so many magic moments that I am so proud of and I am truly grateful for it all. Wishing everyone all the best for a great season ahead. #TeamDelta lives on in my heart and now onto a very exciting new chapter …. XxD”
