Pirates of the Caribbean could be set to get a reboot. Yep, you heard that right!

It’s been just one year since Disney released the fifth film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, but they are already planning on a reboot of the franchise.

According to Deadline, Disney is exploring a reboot of the hugely successful swash-buckling franchise and is in talks with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (the duo behind Deadpool and Zombieland) to pen the project. Plus, Jerry Bruckheimer is back on board to produce the reboot.

Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly starred in the franchise.

Given that the first five films grossed over $6.36 billion dollars over the past 14 years, it’s no wonder the studio wants to explore a reboot.

But, will any of our favourites return?

According to the reports, it’s too early to say if any of the original cast will stay on.

Of course, it leads to the question – do we really need a reboot?

The last film, Dead Men Tell No Tales saw Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom return to the franchise and it sets up what could see them return for an all new film instead of rehashing old ground.

But, this isn’t the first time we have seen a series reboot shortly after the original. After all, The Amazing Spider-Man came out only five years after Spider-Man 3 was released in 2007.

Personally, I feel that the magic of the first film, The Curse of the Black Pearl will be hard to recapture. But, who knows, maybe a reboot could breathe new life into the series.
