Doctor Doctor star Rodger Corser’s most romantic confession about his wife Renae Berry

The Gold Logie nominee opens up about his chances of winning and taking time out to romance his wife

He’s known for bringing life to mischievous character Dr Hugh Knight in the show that has for years earned itself Logie nominations, but Doctor Doctor star Rodger Corser refuses to buy into any extra attention.

“I’m a daggy dad,” the TV Week Gold Logie Award nominee tells WHO. Although most actors would be lapping up their time in the spotlight in the lead up to the June 30 event, Corser says he’s looking forward to spending some downtime with his wife and the mother of their four children, Renae Berry.

“The good thing about being on the Gold Coast is you get a ‘plus one’. So we’ll leave the kids and come up here and enjoy the Gold Coast – we’ll have fun – do all the things that we can’t with four kids! You know, have dinner or have lunch. Actually, just read the paper opposite each other and not say anything – it’s always so hectic and my wife won’t have to be screaming,” he says.

Corser is nominated for the big gong alongside other TV greats including comedian Tom Gleeson from Hard Quiz, superstar host Amanda Keller (DWTS, The Living Room), Sunrise weather presenter Sam ‘Mac’ McMillan, Neighbours’ star Eve Morey, The Project’s Waleed Aly and Gardening Australia’s Costa Georgiadis.

While he’s popular on TV, Corser isn’t confident he’ll take home a win.

“Look, three years in a row is great, the show is nominated every year. Third time lucky? I don’t know about that … I think Amanda’s got a really strong case and can’t dispel Tom Gleeson, in political terms you’d call him a kingmaker. But now he’s kingmaking himself [after threatening to cancel his show unless he wins the Gold Logie]. It’s almost a form of masturbation … He’s promoting himself. Who knows, I think it’s out of those two.”

Meanwhile, something he is sure about is the progression of his character.

“The role is great, this year is even more fun, the directive was to take a bad character and make it badder … Let’s take it as bad as we can go before the censor stops!”

He also gives fans a snippet of what to expect: “I’ve had a huge blast with it and new people can come on board this season … and there’s also something there for dedicated fans, the Doctor Doctor humour, heart, but we’ve turned it up.”
