Taking to her Instagram Stories, Barbie revealed the sad news against a backdrop of a drawing of her character, made by co-star Hunter Schafer.

“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye.

“I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today.

“I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you Katherine Hernandez,” she shared.

Barbie’s character Kat was a fan-favourite, with many in the Euphoria audience resonating with her journey.

Throughout the show, we saw Kat come into her own as she found the best ways to express her sexuality and body positivity, after beginning as a shy and reserved character.

However, fans were upset with the apparent plateau of her arc in the second season, which came alongside rumours she disagreed with the show’s creator, Sam Levinson.

There were claims reported that Barbie even stormed off set at one point, although it was refuted by HBO.

“I really think fans are passionate and I do appreciate that because Euphoria has really impacted so many people,” Barbie told Insider when she addressed the rumours of a feud.

“Sometimes, things take on a life of their own, and they’re not rooted in the truth, but it’s okay because I know it’s just out of passion and out of curiosity and all that good stuff,” she said.

“And I signed up for it, so I’ll take it. I’ll take the good and the bad.”

However, there is no indication in Barbie’s Instagram statement on whether leaving was her personal choice, or one imposed upon her.
