It is no secret that Married At First Sight Australia attracts a certain kind of person- outspoken, fame- hungry, and of course, desperately looking for love.

The perfect combination of characteristics for a reality TV show once upon a time, but viewers are starting to get tired of these predictable people- in particular, the “villains” of the series.

The 2026 season has just begun and already we have been introduced to this series’ “villain.” Gia Fleur is brazen, sharp-tongued, and oftentimes just plain cruel to her fellow brides.

Although viewers typically love watching fights and drama, they appear to be tired of this particular type of negativity.

Why are viewers criticising Gia?

While viewers are admitting on social media platforms that every season needs a “villain,” they are expressing how “women being nasty to other women” is not something they want to watch.

In episode one, the bachelorette party should’ve been about bonding, but instead, it became a showcase for Gia’s mean commentary.

Throughout the night, she made repeated negative comments about the other women, including calling them “boring” and even rating Bec “a 5,” a moment that left viewers horrified, especially after Bec’s honest confessional at the start.

Bec, who tells the cameras that Gia’s attitude “stinks”, had already opened up to the producers about her 20kg weight loss, which left her “feeling beautiful” for the first time, as it has been something she struggled with her “whole life.”

Look, we know we’re not watching reality TV to strengthen our moral compass, but taking pot shots at other women in 2026? That’s a definite ick.

What are fans saying online?

One Reddit user started a MAFS thread with the question: “Anyone else getting Sophie from 2 broke girls vibe from Gia – looks and personality?” which got inundated with responses.

One user replied: “I never saw Two Broke Girls but I’ve never seen Jennifer Coolidge playing a character as unlikeable as Gia,” to which a second responded: “No way, Sophie is cutting but she’s never downright mean. Gia comes across like she’d throw her nonna under a bus.”

A third added: “No Sophie is an icon and Gia is a mean girl,” and a fourth explained: “If you have to announce you’re not a basic b**ch you are, in fact, a basic b**ch.”
