It has been nearly 10 years since Sydney native Tanc Sade first appeared as Finn—the wise-cracking, trouble-making buddy of Rory’s boyfriend Logan—on Gilmore Girls. He only appeared on 14 episodes over 2 seasons, but “I have gotten fan mail every single day for a decade,” he tells WHO. “Every few years, a new wave of fans fall in love with the show.”
It isn’t just fan mail, either. Sade—who currently stars in Cameron Crowe’s behind-the-music series Roadies, which airs weekly on Stan—says he has seen “several tattoos of phrases I [uttered] on Gilmore Girls on wrists, and I know of at least four kids named after me. It’s bizarre.”
That fan fervour was instrumental in bringing Gilmore Girls back from the TV ash heap. Netflix will be airing Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, a limited four-episode series, this November.
And Sade, who returned for the shoot, says he has “no doubt it will do incredibly well.” He praises “the quality of the material” and points to the return of creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, who was not involved in the series’ original final season. “Amy’s writing was so instrumental to so many people growing up. She’s 100 per cent on board. This is her swan song.”
Could he—or series stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel—be tempted back for another go if this one proves successful?
“I have no doubt this will do incredibly well and exceed expectations,” he replies. “So many people will then want another instalment that I’m not sure they’ll agree to that. Amy had the last four words of the series in her head before she even pitched the pilot. I think this is her time to finally share them.”
