The third and final chapter of the How to Train Your Dragon series, The Hidden World finds Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) facing his greatest struggle yet as the dragon colony he has created comes under threat from poachers, who hire a particularly nasty hunter intent on capturing and killing Toothless.
With such high stakes, Hiccup’s skills as a leader are put to the test, while he receives a wake-up call that he will, at some point, need to grow up and become an adult. Good thing he has love-of-his-life Astrid (America Ferrera) by his side and mum Valka (Cate Blanchett) in his corner – he’s going to need them!
Although there is a serious – and rather emotional – undertone to this movie, there are still plenty of thrills as the Vikings go into battle to save the dragons and hijinks, thanks to Hiccup’s various offsiders. By the end, there is also an explanation as to why dragons don’t still live among us. 3.5 stars
