Dermott Brereton, 54, is regarded as one of the greatest AFL players of his generation, kicking 464 goals and playing in five premierships for Hawthorn — including the 1989 grand final where he was famously shirtfronted at the beginning of match, playing on despite breaking his ribs. He finished his playing career at the Sydney Swans before finally moving to Collingwood.

Nicknamed “The Kid,” he was best known for his aggressive style of play, not to mention his glorious 1980s mullet, which he has revealed he washed with Omo washing detergent. “Bloody oath I did,” he said in 2016. “It went white, orange and all that— I had fun with it.”

Since hanging up his footy boots, he has forged a successful career as a television presenter, football commentator, newspaper columnist, and radio host.
