In a rare interview, actress Isla Fisher has gushed about her actor husband Sacha Baron Cohen, and the “special connection” they share.
After marrying in 2010, the Confessions of a Shopaholic star and Borat actor – who share children Olive, born in 2008, Elula, born in 2010, and Montgomery, born in 2015 – have managed to keep their family life out of the public eye, despite being some of the biggest stars on the planet.
But in a recent appearance on the British talk show Loose Women, Fisher lifted the veil on her happy marriage “on camera”, to the delight of fans across the globe.
“I think the secret [to a happy marriage] for us is that we don’t talk about it publicly, so it feels special and private to us. And equally, it’s nice to share the same line of work, you can talk about the issues that arise in Hollywood, in our jobs, and the entertainment industry,” Fisher shared.
“It’s nice to have that in common, plus a sense of humour and obviously shared love of little people.”
After meeting at a party in Sydney in 2001, Cohen admitted it was “love at first sight”, the duo soon engaged in 2004, before finally tying the knot in an intimate ceremony six years later in Paris.
“I knew instantly [that I loved her]”, Cohen told The New York Times.
The incredibly private couple have on a rare occasion shared an insight into their marriage and family life on social media, most recently celebrating 20 years of wedded bliss in December last year.
Fisher included an array of photos with the caption, “Happy Anniversary” with a red heart emoji, “20 YEARS.” He continued, “If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart. I’ll stay there forever, Winnie the Pooh.”
The 46-year-old actress has previously said that marrying Cohen was like “winning the lottery”.
“Choosing to be together every day is incredibly romantic. I love marriage. I think it’s a wonderful institution and it’s the most important decision you make,” she told the Sunday Telegraph.
“Life is filled with highs and lows, and you have a best friend to share it with you. It’s amazing.”
