The American author, who has sold almost 20 million books, has been publishing Romances for over a decade – but after her addictive page-turners went viral on BookTok during lockdown, her name has become synonymous with twisty must-reads.
Which is why it came as no surprise when news broke that her 2016 novel, It Ends With Us, was getting a screen adaptation.

It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover follows the journey of Lily Bloom, who navigates her relationships while grappling with the legacy of her parents’ abusive marriage.
The story revolves around Lily’s encounters with two men: Atlas Corrigan, her first love, and Ryle Kincaid, a neurosurgeon she later marries. Lily’s experiences with both men force her to confront the cycle of abuse she witnessed in her childhood and ultimately make choices that reflect her determination to break that cycle.
Through the narrative, Hoover explores themes of love, forgiveness, and the complexities of relationships, ultimately delivering a powerful message about ending patterns of abuse and creating a better future.
Who is in the cast of It Ends With Us
The film adaptation of It Ends With Us stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni in the lead roles of Lily Bloom and Ryle Kincaid, respectively. Baldoni, known for his role in the CW’s Jane the Virgin, not only stars as Ryle but also directed the film.
Author Colleen Hoover expressed excitement about Lively’s casting, hailing her as the perfect embodiment of Lily.
“Our Lily is going to be played by Blake Lively. Blake Lively, y’all. She’s my dream Lily,” she wrote on Instagram following Deadline’s reporting on the casting.
Joining the ensemble are Brandon Sklenar as Atlas Corrigan, along with Jenny Slate and Hasan Minhaj in supporting roles.
