At the very first Bachelor cocktail party, Zoe-Clare McDonald made headlines when she claimed that she was being discriminated against because of her red hair. But one former reality TV star (and fellow redhead) came to defence after the episode aired.
Speaking to The Babble podcast, Cam Merchant confessed that his pregnant wife Jules Robinson reached out to the 23-year-old Queenslander.
“We were watching at the time, that was episode one wasn’t it? And Zoe-Clare was stunning!” Cam confirmed to hosts Matty J and Ruby Teys.
“When she originally started having a crack and she was going on at herself, she did end up doing a Story just to say, ‘Honey I don’t know what’s happening here, but you’re gorgeous, and I don’t know about you, but redheads are the hottest, they’re the best.'”
Whilst Cam admitted that he “can’t confirm” whether Zoe-Clare responded, he did admit that Jules was “in her corner.”
Following her elimination, Zoe-Clare penned a message of thanks to fans for the support and love thrown her way.
“Well after all my ‘snack’ references I realised Locky wasn’t going to be my last meal,” she joked in an Instagram post.
“In all seriousness, what a crazy ride after many, many months of anticipation my time on The Bachelor is over! To all the amazing girls I now get to call some of my best mates, I’m so grateful we were all chosen to go through this experience together! I wish nothing but love and happiness to all the women left in the running for Locky’s heart! Cheers for all the support and love that’s been thrown my way, It hasn’t gone unnoticed.”
Cam also mentioned that his now wife wasn’t his physical type when they met at the altar during MAFS – and Jules thought the same of him!
“Jules and I are so open about it,” he explained.
“I was way too short and Jules was red-haired, curvaceous, tall and I thought ‘This is a stitch up here!’ But once we met and sort of locked eyes, there was this comfortable warmness that came over and all the judgement went out the window.”
He added: “We were able to put all that s*** aside and see what’s actually on the inside and we fell in love that way.”
Cam and Jules are just weeks away from welcoming their first child and are making their final preparations to their family home.
According to reports, the couple purchased a $1.8 million four-bedroom property in Cromer on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and have enlisted the assistance of The Block‘s Mitch Edwards and Mark McKie for assistance with the renovations.
The MAFS 2019 stars were previously living in Jules’ $1.4 million two-bedroom apartment but moved out in May.
“Well it’s the end of a era! So many memories were made in this apartment, our happy place, our anchor, our port in a storm, a home, so many laughs, moments to cherish, so many videos of me sleeping and so many stairs climbed #topfloor #mission,” Jules wrote on Instagram.
“They say home isn’t a place it’s a feeling and I can’t wait to get the feels all over again.”
It’s safe to say that the couple can’t wait to become parents and though the couple are yet to find out the sex of their unborn child, Cam told Who in an exclusive chat that they’ve settled on a shortlist for names.
“Funnily enough, I had my girl’s name sorted out maybe six, seven years ago and I brought that up the first time we discussed kids. She loved it, so that’s been locked in,” Cam revealed.
“Boy’s name, we’re almost there. I think a couple of friends said that their baby has come early and they’ve literally had no name for it for literally a couple of weeks so hopefully that doesn’t happen.”
