In the midst of all the drama surrounding his newest hit “Famous,” West, 39, threw shade at Swift, 26, during his joint interview with wife Kim Kardashian West, 35, for Harper’s Bazaar. During the sit down he admitted that he doesn’t usually rock out to T-Swift. And by “usually,” we mean ever.
When asked his favourite Taylor Swift track, Kanye was characteristically blunt. “For me? I don’t have one.”
But the story is different for Kardashian West, proving once a Swift fan, not always a Swift fan.
“I was such a fan of hers,” Kardashian West responded about her choice song. (Key word: was.)
The drama – which erupted in February when his song “Famous” was released – is centred around the lyrics: “For all my Southside n—– that know me best / I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous / G-d Damn / I made that bitch famous.”
While the rapper insisted Swift approved the lyrics, the singer’s rep told WHO otherwise, stating Swift “declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyrics, ‘I made that bitch famous.'”
After several attempts to defend her man, Kardashian West added more fuel to the fire during the July 17 episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians when she released a secret phone call between her husband and the pop star discussing the lyrics.
Swift responded with a lengthy post on her social media accounts. “Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me ‘that bitch’ in his song? It doesn’t exist because it never happened. You don’t get to control someone’s emotional response to being called ‘that bitch’ in front of the entire world…He promised to play the song for me, but he never did. While I wanted to be supportive of Kanye on the phone call, you cannot ‘approve’ a song you haven’t heard. Being falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story or played any part of the song is character assassination.”
