In a somewhat meta-moment in the latest episode of The Kardashians, Kourtney Kardashian has claimed she was unhappy with sympathetic editing for her ex-husband Scott Disick and referred to their previous relationship as ‘toxic’.
Speaking with her friend, Stephanie Shepherd, Kourtney revealed that her experience of filming alongside her fiancée, Travis Barker, had been tainted by the edits they were receiving, especially in their engagement episode.
“We’ve been watching the edits and we’re just so annoyed because they’re like swirling us in with this drama,” she revealed.
“Especially when I saw my engagement episode, editors or whoever are taking it as like ‘let’s take Kourtney, she’s the chosen one to be the drama.”
Kourtney was referring to a moment in the episode where her sisters pull her aside to ask what her ex, Scott Disick, would think of the engagement, and whether she had sympathy for him.
While Kourtney claimed that she did, especially given they share three children together, she has also maintained that her and Scott have been broken up for many years now, and she should be allowed to move on.
“While shooting our show, we are all executive producers, so we get to see cuts of the show and give notes on episodes and make sure that our stories are being told,” Kourtney explained in a piece-to-camera.
“I am in one of the best places I’ve ever been in my life and it’s time for our show to catch up.”
Kourtney also touched on the nature of her relationship with Scott, comparing its ‘toxic’ nature to the relationship she has now.
“It’s enabling this old narrative and buying into something that just doesn’t really exist. It should be an empowering episode about me getting out of toxic relationships and really having this fairytale love story that is my reality,” she told Stephanie.
Toxic is definitely one way to describe her relationship with Scott, which spanned nine years but featured many feuds and breakups throughout. Scott’s partying behaviour came to be too much at times, and there were rumours of infidelity, with Kourtney finding questionable messages on his phone.
“The infidelity, I only knew about it at the end, so I think the substance abuse was the dealbreaker,” Kourtney said on a reunion episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians in 2021.
On the show, Scott expressed disapproval that their three kids had been absent from the wedding, and wondered aloud if they, and he, would be invited the wedding.
We know now that he did not attend Kourtney’s massive Italian wedding, which took place in Portofino in May.
However, he remains close to the family if the show is anything to go by, particularly Kourtney’s sisters Khloé and Kendall, and her mother, Kris Jenner.
