When Matty J and Laura Byrne first laid eyes on one another, fans could sense their instant chemistry. But the season five Bachelor winner has shared the “low point” she experienced when a sexy new contestant entered the mansion.

In the latest episode of her podcast Life Uncut that she co-hosts with fellow Bachie star Brittany Hockley, Laura recalled a moment from her first night in the mansion when contestant Elora Murger entered the mansion as a late arrival with a grand, fire-twirling entrance.
“There was a girl on my season of The Bachelor who did fire twirling and I actually thought that she was going to end up with Matt and I was like ‘Matt’s going to be with a fire twirler,'” the jewellery designer revealed.
“She’s actually a legend but it was a lot when I was sitting there. I was sitting there having my very first conversation with him – it was the first cocktail night, we were sitting there together having a D&M and then she was like this surprise entry and walks in wearing the sexiest outfit and f***ing fire twirling. I was like ‘I just lost my man to a fire twirler, what is this world? Where am I right now?'”
“It was a low point. Anyway we got there in the end.”
As the phrase goes, the rest is history. Not only did Laura win Matty’s heart on the show, but the two are now engaged and proud parents to daughters Marlie-Mae and Lola.
The couple are also in the midst of planning their wedding that will be held later this year.
“We’ve booked in a venue, we’ve done nothing else because being parents to a newborn has kept us super-busy,” Laura told WHO in May. “We’re closer to the wedding but we’re no closer to having it organised.”
Matty added: “I think we approach weddings in the same way we approach holidays, we’ll book in the big ticket item like the accommodation or the venue and then everything else will be done at the absolute last minute. That is us to a tee.”
As for Elora, she isn’t hung up on Matty J by any means.
The Tahitian-born beauty met her now-husband Azriel Wratt in May 2019 and the two eloped in the height of the pandemic in April 2020.
“I have an endless list of adjectives to describe you… I wrote them all down in a diary before I met you. You are still all of them today,” Elora wrote in a heartfelt Instagram post to mark two years since she and Azriel met.
Like Matty and Laura, the couple plan to celebrate their proper wedding this year.
Speaking to WHO back in 2017 after she was eliminated from the show, Elora spoke highly of Matty J’s now-fiancee.
“I’ve loved Laura from day one. I’ve always admired her, how confident she is and how she’s very well spoken, ambitious – she’s just a kickass lady, she really is,” the former Bachelor star said.
Elora also slammed reports that she and Laura had fights with each other.
“I’ve always loved Laura and I never felt she had any bad intentions or anything. I think what they misunderstood was when they asked me how Elise and Laura were getting along and I said that sometimes Elise hid a little bit under Laura because Laura would cut her off. It’s just because she’s confident and confident women can be intimidating.”
