Following a series of public fights with her fiancé Egor Tarabasov, Lindsay Lohan is opening up about her troubled relationship.
In an interview with the Mail On Sunday the Mean Girls actress claimed that her boyfriend has been abusive to her, and the relationship is likely over.
“The truth is, I wanted to make things work, but now I’m not sure that I can,” Lohan, 30, said.
The interview is the first where the former child star talks about her relationship with Tarabasov, 23, but comes after footage of the couple in a physical altercation last month was posted online last week.
A short clip taken last month while the couple celebrated Lohan’s birthday in Mykonos showed Lohan throwing a phone out of a open-top car before the Russian business mogul stops the vehicle and exits to retrieve the phone. Lohan also goes after the phone, but Tarabasov stops her by aggressively grabbing her and twisting her arm behind her back.
Lohan was reluctant to speak about the incident, sharing only that: “Egor drank too much and he went crazy.”
However, she says this wasn’t an isolated incident. Just two weeks before that, the couple got in another fight , causing cops to enter their London home after Lohan yelled to neighbors that she had been attacked. In a video taken by a neighbor, the actress heard screaming, “Please, please. He just strangled me. He almost killed me.” No one was charged as a result of the incident. Lohan revealed that the couple had gone on a date night before the fight.
“When we got home I went to bed and Egor went out,” she said. “A few hours later he came back and when I woke up he was standing over me. He wasn’t himself, he was being very aggressive and he attacked me.
“I wanted to do this interview because it’s time to tell the truth,” she said. “There have been so many lies printed about me recently. I’ve kept quiet for so long but now I’m scared of what Egor might do to me and to himself.”
She also admits that the abusive behaviour has occurred before.
“It’s not the first time,” Lohan said. “That’s the problem. But this time, someone saw.”
Following the fall-out on the balcony, the actress said that she went to a hotel for the night then spent time with a friend in St. Tropez. She continued to spend time away from Tarabasov, spending the past week with a friend on a yacht in Sardinia.
Previously, Lohan hinted at relationship trouble in a series of cryptic tweets accusing her fiancé of being unfaithful.
She captioned a video of her Tarabasov partying with the caption, “Home? First time in my life-bare with he/ he cheated on me with hooker.”
Although sources claimed Lohan had been doing better since moving to London in 2012 and being with her fiancé, she knows the relationship has turned unhealthy.
“I realize now you can’t stay in a relationship just for love,” Lohan said. “No woman can be hit and stay with that person if that person isn’t prepared to say sorry.”
Although Lohan recently contacted Tarabasov in hopes of meeting, it appears that the relationship is over.
“I need closure,” she said. “I genuinely fell in love with him but he broke my trust and made me feel unsafe.”
“I know I’m not an angel but I’ve tried to fix things. It’s down to him now. I had suggested we go for couples’ counselling but there comes a time when I have to put myself first, my family, and also think about my career which I’ve worked so hard for. I also don’t want to let my fans down by not being the strong woman I have become.
