It certainly has been a tough 2020 for Grant and Lucy.

The couple had only owned their home on the NSW South Coast for eight months when it was destroyed in the devastating bushfires in January.

On New Year’s Eve 2019, Grant, who won the first season of Love Island alongside Tayla Damir, took to Instagram to describe his terror as he and Lucy were forced to evacuate their home as the fire approached.

“It’s actually surreal to feel warm wind. And there’s a fire that’s three kilometres away, it’s f–king huge, so we’ve just had to evacuate,” he said.

“You get all these weird messages and weird calls from the police and the RFS, and it sounds like the scariest thing I’ve ever witnessed.”

Grant shocked reality TV fans shortly after his Love Island win when it was unveiled that Lucy had been his “secret girlfriend” the entire time and that he’d lied to producers about his relationship status.

It was later revealed that Grant had been in a relationship with Lucy right up until leaving for Spain to film the reality dating show, and the pair dated again after he had broken up with Tayla.

“Going into it, I didn’t really think I had feelings for Grant,” Lucy told NW in 2018.

“But I don’t think it was until he was on there and I was watching it that I sort of went, ‘Oh, I did have feelings that were more than just a friendship’.”

In an exclusive chat with WhoTayla, who is currently dating AFL player Nathan Broad, confessed that when news broke of Grant and Lucy’s relationship, she wasn’t surprised.

“It was no shock to me,” she revealed.

“Obviously, there were more reasons as to why we broke up other than just a rumoured girlfriend. There were pretty clear signs they were still talking and I wasn’t going to be the other girl.”

She added: “It was all the lies that got to me, at the end of the day. I’d ask him, ‘Have you spoken to her?’ and he’d say, ‘No,’ but then there were text messages proving that he was. I would see it on his phone. It was one thing after another and stories weren’t adding up. My gut was telling me to get out, so I listened. I knew I had to get out. Everything we’ve seen that’s come since the break-up has really proven my gut was right.”
