He arrives on screens during the show’s upcoming season finale to play Summer Bay’s mysterious new nurse Lewis Hayes – and while he’s on a revenge mission, Jasmine Delaney (Sam Frost) also catches his eye.
“Lewis and Jasmine had a fling back in the day,” the 36-year-old tells WHO. “But once that ended, he went off, found the love of his life but unfortunately she passed away.”
Lewis arrives in Summer Bay determined to confront the surgeon he believes is responsible for his late partner’s death.
“Lewis wants to get into it with Ditch Davey’s character Christian Green but when he reconnects with Jasmine, he’s torn between his budding new romance and his building obsession with Christian.”
It’s a juicy role, Arnold says. “I stick around for a few months.”
How did you prepare for your role?
Lewis splits his time between working as a nurse and hanging out with his old friend Jasmine. I’m really lucky that Home and Away has skilled nurses on set and in the writers’ room, helping me to make Lewis look as authentic and accomplished as a nurse as possible – even with the fast-shooting schedule. When it comes to making Jasmine and Lewis look comfortable with each other, there was no preparation needed. Sam makes the job a breeze.
Did you know Sam Frost before joining the soap?
I actually met Sam a few years ago at WHO’s Sexiest People party. It was only a brief meeting but it was enough to let me know that she’d be a lot of fun to work with. Almost every other Aussie actor I know has had their turn on Home and Away over the years, so I’m stoked to finally get my shot.
As well as acting, you’re also an author …
I started acting to kind of hire myself to play parts in things I wrote. That lead to acting in productions like [2014’s INXS miniseries] Never Tear Us Apart and [2014-17 historical TV series] Black Sails. It was such a buzz to play those parts. When I finished filming those, I wrote my [fantasy] books The Last Smile in Sunder City and Dead Man in a Ditch – which came out this year. I’m so lucky that I get to act and write. I’ve got the best of both worlds!
