Married At First Sight Australia 2026 broke new ground when bisexual bride Julia Vogl revealed she was open to being matched with either a man or a woman.

The experts ultimately paired her with Queensland recruitment company owner Grayson McIvor, who applied after being inspired by his close friend Johnny Balbuziente’s successful MAFS love story with Kerry Knight.

Julia, who’s had four serious relationships and is still searching for “the one,” joined the experiment hoping it would finally lead to lasting love.

But while the match looked promising on paper, the couple hit a few bumps when Julia explained she wasn’t feeling chemistry with Grayson – something that completely blindsighted him.

Julia and Grayson’s ‘divine’ start

From the moment they met at their Sydney Opera House wedding, sparks were flying.

Julia felt an immediate sense of ease with Grayson, praising his warmth and presence as soon as they locked eyes.

“He is absolutely divine, so warm, he had kindness in his eyes, yes, I’m happy,” Julia gushed upon first meeting.

Grayson’s heartfelt vows, in which he opened up about the injury that ended his AFL dreams, only deepened the connection. Throughout the ceremony, the pair reassured one another and shared their excitement about being matched.

“I feel safe with you, I do, I love your energy,” Grayson told his new bride.

As their bond continued to grow at the reception, Julia admitted she felt nervous about opening up about her sexuality, but her fears were quickly eased.

“I don’t see people for their sexuality,” he told her. “I’m open to anything. Doesn’t bother me whatsoever.”

Julia felt she was missing something with Grayson

The couple got off to a strong start and had a happy honeymoon in Port Douglas.

However, after moving in together, Julia expressed she felt she was missing something with Grayson, and a difference in communication styles left the couple struggling to get back in their stride.

When questioned whether she would have preferred being matched with a woman for the experiment, Julia confirmed it wouldn’t have made a difference.

“If I had a preference to embark on a journey like this, I would have been very clear. If I wanted to be matched with a woman, I would have just said that,” she said to expert Alessandra.

Do Julia and Grayson make it outside of the MAFS experiment?

Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be for the couple.

A difference in communication styles and a lack of chemistry on Julia’s end left the pair calling it quits on March 2, with both opting to leave at the Commitment Ceremony.

Grayson admitted he “fantasied” about a future with Julia but was feeling “exhausted” by their conflict.

“I had no other expectations than leaving here and being in love,” he told the experts.

However, Julia said they “just don’t speak the same language” and felt they had come to a natural end.
