MAFS’ Booka denies claims that her songs are about Brett

Aside from the obvious 'Breeeeett' song, of course.

Married At First Sight fans were caught off guard when Booka Nile’s band Internet Friends dropped a song entitled Beam me up soft/f***boi that seemed a lot like it was about her on-screen husband, Brett Helling.

For anyone that missed it, lyrics include the lines:  “Boy, there’s some bulls*** on your face I’m coming,” and “You’re so predictable and you’ve lost all your appeal. You’re so basic my hymen has gone resealed.”

On top of that, the moustached man in the music video looks a lot like Brett so you can’t blame fans (yes, including us) for jumping to conclusions.

However in a chat on Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne’s Life Uncut podcast, musician Booka revealed the real inspiration behind the song.

“That song Beam Me Up Softboi, I learned what softboi was when I was on the show because one of my friends had said to me ‘What you’re describing in your relationship is softboi behaviour.’ I was like ‘I don’t like this, to call men soft, that’s really problematic’ and then I actually Googled it and was like ‘Oh ok,'” she recalled.

“It was not about Brett, that song was about my newfound excitement about this Instagram called @beam_me_up_softboi. I’m really into it, the messages on there are hilarious and they have over half a million followers.”

Booka added that she’s about to release another song called Faked It that features the lyrics: “Do that thing you do when you lie right to my face cause I lied too all those times I faked it.” In her words, it translates to “you suck in bed,” but the MAFS bride made it clear it wasn’t about her TV ex.

“It’s not about Bretty – I’ve had to contact Brett about soft boi songs. I’ve had to pre-warn him that people might think this next one’s about him. I don’t want people do be like ‘Ha ha Brett sucks in bed.’ People are going to assume my stuff’s about Brett, definitely,” she shared.

“There was a guy I was hooking up with when I got back home who was like a flame from before. We’d only ever hooked up a few times before the show and then maybe a month or so after returning I saw him and we started hanging out again…”

Host Brittany then said what we were all thinking and added: “And basically he sucks in bed!”

When the series first kicked off, Booka and Brett seemed to be the unproblematic fan favourites and a spark was there from the beginning.

Speaking about whether she thought she and Brett were a good match by the experts, Booka admitted: “I feel like there were a few things that were designed to test me.”

“I had said that I really like tall guys and obviously Brett was not tall – he’s exactly the same height as me with no shoes and then as soon as I put any type of footwear on I’m taller than him so that for me was something for me that I had to get over and look past.”

However she revealed that the compatibility was there from the start and that she thought the producers and experts had high hopes for her and Brett as a couple.

“They never encouraged drama between us, if anything they tried to really encourage the relationship to work – that’s how I felt anyway. Aside from Patrick’s letter, there was nothing that I feel that they put on us to try and create something explosive.

“They actually did do quite a good job in many ways but of course people are really complex and intricate.”

As we now know, Booka and Brett didn’t go the distance after the TV groom dished to co-star Patrick that she was “self-involved” – news that circled back to Booka via a brutally honest letter.

In a previous chat with WHOBooka admitted that she was “so hurt” by Brett going behind her back.

“Brett totally betrayed me. You expect your partner to have your back. If I’ve got a problem, I try and confront it with somebody and work it out with them. But apparently there was this huge list of things that was wrong with me that he never raised with me,” she confessed.

Though they never made it to final vows, the couple are still on good terms. Plus, we’ll always have the ‘Breeeett’ song.
