You’d assume that before applying for one Australia’s biggest reality shows, you’d watch an episode or two.
But that wasn’t the case for Drew Brauer who failed to watch a single episode of Married At First Sight before he joined the 2020 cast.
Speaking to former Bachelor Matty J on his podcast The Babble, musician Drew confessed his blunder.
“Probably this stupidest thing that I’ve ever done in my life is never watching the show before I went on and I had no idea what I was in for,” he said to a shocked Matty.
“I don’t want to say that I’ve peaked yet and there might be stupid things in the future, but definitely that’s the silliest thing I’ve ever done! But I’m glad that I didn’t, because I wouldn’t have gone on it if I had known what the show was like…”
He later admitted that MAFS was the hardest thing he’d been through for his mental health – even harder than having his wedding called off.

Singer-songwriter Drew also revealed that producers hounded him to write an original song for on-screen wife KC – and even though it wasn’t aired, he did.
“I wrote one on the show and it’s called At First Sight funnily enough!” Drew shared.
“Most people can’t relate to marrying someone they haven’t met before. But the way that I did it was like, everybody’s a stranger until you meet them for the first time. It’s like, in a stranger’s eyes I met my wife, and we can all kind of relate to that you know. I’m really happy with the song – it came out really nice,” he added.
With lyrics like: “In A Strangers’ Eyes, I Met My Wife. Worlds Collided At First Sight,” it sounds like a hit!

Drew’s had some interesting songwriting endeavours – including his song Kick Ons that features some questionable lyrics.
“It’s nice to meet the twins,” Drew (also known as Drewboy) sings.
“Yay, big boobies for the win, please let this lady in so we can rub them on our chins, yum yum.”
But in a chat with Now To Love, Drew admitted that despite the lyrics sounding “so much worse when you read them out slowly”, the song was written to be a fun and cheeky anthem.
“We started playing big festivals and basically we needed some festival songs. So I wrote that very tongue-in-cheek and it was written specifically for festival-goers and it was a heap of fun to write and it’s a heap of fun to play on stage.”

Drew’s on-screen wife is now dating fellow MAFS co-star Michael Goonan, but there are no hard feelings.
“I went for lunch with Drew after filming the Today Show and he asked if the rumours were true,” KC told New Idea shortly after she and Michael went public with their relationship.
“I couldn’t lie to him, so I told him that we were dating. Drew was nothing but supportive and agreed to keep it a secret. We finished off by having a glass of wine and toasting to the good times we had in the experiment.”

Michael added that he was “confused” by KC and Drew’s relationship.
“I thought they were both gorgeous people and a good-looking couple, [but] I couldn’t understand why he was so reserved towards KC. As an outsider looking in, I always felt like she was putting in more effort than him.”
