Married At First Sight‘s Jake Edwards may not have had a successful marriage on the show, but he’s certainly ready to commit to new girlfriend, Sophie Guidolin.
Appearing as a special guest on Sophie’s podcast Flourish and Fulfilled, Jake answered fans’ questions alongside his new lady ranging from their relationship to mental health.
When one fan asked, “Can you see yourself getting married?” Jake, 33, quick as a flash responded, “Yes I can, hopefully soon.”
Fitness influencer Sophie, 32, who was previously married to husband Nathan Wallace, added that even though she swore off marriage, Jake “changed everything”. She even said she’d take his surname – something she didn’t do in her last marriage.
“Previously I put it out there that I would never get remarried and you have changed everything to do with that. Not even because it’s important to you but because it’s important to me,” Sophie told Jake on the podcast.
The couple also mentioned expanding their family, and if they get their way ex AFL player Jake and his new partner will have a football team of kids!
“Yes, I think I could literally have 20 kids no joke and still not be finished. I’m always that maternal figure,” Sophie explained.
“Kids gravitate towards me, I always have this pack around me – even when they’re not mine!”
Sophie is already a mum of four – the fitness influencer has sons Kai and Ryder and twin girls, Evie and Aria.
Sophie also recounted the story of how she and Jake met on Instagram last year after Sophie saw all of the mental health work he was doing.
“Last year I jumped on Instagram and saw all of the incredible work that you were doing and you blew me away and I slid into the DMs. Not once, not twice, just really unsubtly threw myself in there and left you love heart emojis which were not reciprocated,” she laughed.
“I blew you off” Jake replied, adding that Sophie was “relentless” in her pursuit.
After unfollowing her boyfriend-to-be, Sophie then received a message from Jake telling her that someone had taken over his Instagram account and he then offered phone number to text him.
“I very much was like ‘This is a massive red flag and he’s gone to jail!’” she recalled.
However, from the moment they had their first date in Byron Bay, Jake and Sophie knew that they had something special.
“We just sat on the grass, had a couple of drinks and we just chatted for a couple of hours,” Jake recounted.
With MAFS and his marriage to Beck Zemek all done and dusted, Jake’s relationship with Sophie officially went public after the reality show finale.
The MAFS groom admitted his mental health took a turn especially in the last six weeks of the show airing, but that it was Sophie who helped him through his dark days.
“She saved me in a lot of ways. She’s a remarkable mum, she’s an incredible woman, and she’s perfect,” Jake said of his girlfriend.
The mental health charity CEO also admitted to Nova 100’s Chrissie, Sam and Browny that if Sophie hadn’t come into his life when she did, he wouldn’t know where he’d be.
“She’s just been extremely supportive and someone that I’m very grateful for, I think it starts there and as of today we can be normal, be public and get on that journey together.”
