It’s been just over a year since she wed her Italian husband, Carlo, and Mandy McElhinney still can’t get over just how magical their big day was.
“It was an amazing, amazing wedding, and an amazing time,” says McElhinney, who tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony at a church known as the Madonna Della Rocca, above the town of Taormina in Sicily, on Dec. 28, 2017.
“It was magic; the kind of wedding you wouldn’t have here – it was totally immersing ourselves in the cultural experience of getting married in Italy. And they do it so well – they know how to do a wedding.”
McElhinney’s extended family travelled to Italy for the ceremony, enjoying the festive season, Sicilian-style. “It was over the Christmas period last year, so my whole family got to be together with his family and friends and spend it in Sicily,” she says. “It was a completely fairytale experience for everyone.”
A year on, the couple spent their first wedding anniversary with two of their dearest friends who also recently became engaged. “They decided to get married on the same day as us,” Mandy explains. “It means a lot.”
