Actors around the world have nightmare audition stories on hand, but Margot Robbie’s one when she was high on painkillers has left us lost for words.
In a report by The Sun, the 31-year-old Hollywood actor and producer recalled the time she went for a big audition the day after a small day surgery.
But seeing as the names of medications are different to what they are called in Australia, Queensland-born Margot readily accepted painkillers from her friend who had just had root canal treatment.
“I was like, ‘I’m in so much pain but I’ve got this audition tomorrow’. And he was like, ‘Oh well, I’ve got painkillers from the root canal. Take them when you wake up before your audition and you’ll be fine’. And I was like, ‘OK, thank you so much’,” she recalled.
“And he said, ‘Here, take two’. And when he said, ‘Take two’ I thought he meant to take two as the dosage, but he really meant to take two just in case I needed another one later.
As you can expect, the audition did not go to plan.
“Anyway, I woke up and I was getting ready for this audition, didn’t get time to eat breakfast so, on an empty stomach, I had two. I’m driving and halfway there I was suddenly like, ‘Oh my God, what a lovely day it is!’
“I’ve got one hand out the window. I was off my head. It was a terrible audition, I’m sure! I remember curling up on the couch and the whole thing was terrible.”
Margot was even meant to go for her driving test to get her American licence and had to accept that she was in no state to drive.
“Fortunately my friend worked at Sony, which is where I was doing the audition, and I ran to her office and was like, ‘Can you give me food or something? I think I’m high. I’m not sure but I think I’m high, help me’. It was hilarious.”
In a recent interview whilst promoting her new film The Suicide Squad, Margot shared her worries that she’s peaked in her career.
“I hope that’s not the case because I still feel like I have a lot to give, and there’s still a lot of directors I want to work with.
“I’m just going to keep climbing as long as I can.”

Aside from being a style icon, as evidenced by her recent white Chanel jumpsuit at the Suicide Squad premiere, Margot is also a fierce advocate for women in the film industry, especially when it comes to action movies.
‘“From a business or statistical standpoint, those are the high-paying jobs,” Margot told British Vogue.
“So I really want to advocate for women writing big blockbuster action films. And then also, the perception that women aren’t interested in action is ridiculous. Plus, they’re really, really fun.”
