Lady Gaga is fitting in nicely to the role of Harley Quinn, according to new on-set pics.
Fans have received a glimpse of Gaga in character after the cast was snapped by paparazzi while filming on the steps of New York’s city hall.
Gaga appeared in two looks for filming: a pared down, everyday dress and coat, plus another look in a bold, red waistcoat, harlequin patterned top and leather mini.
In the latter, Gaga also sported some serious “evil clown” make-up, in keeping with her character.

Gaga joins the cast of Joker: Folie a Deux alongside Joaquin Phoenix in his second turn as the titular character.
The paparazzi pics also revealed a glimpse of Phoenix as The Joker, sporting a similar look to his previous run in the role.

This is only the second look at Gaga in the role of Harley Quinn.
Fans received their first look of the musician/actress in the iconic role earlier this year after Joker director Todd Phillips shared the first look pic captioned “Happy Valentine’s Day.”

The role of Harley Quinn in the current DC film universe was originated by Margot Robbie.
The Aussie actress, who took on the role of Harley in three movies over the span of five years, was happy to pass the role onto none other than Lady Gaga
Margot Robbie explained in an interview with MTV that she was “so happy” to see another actress step into the iconic role of Harley Quinn, following the news that Lady Gaga will star in the upcoming film Joker: Folie à Deux.

“It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning, all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor,” Robbie explained.
“And I feel like in not so many cases are they female characters,” she continued. “Queen Elizabeth I, but like beyond that — which I got to have a crack at as well, which I was honoured to do. I was like, ‘Wow, Cate Blanchett did Queen Elizabeth I. Now I get to.'”

She also spoke on Lady Gaga’s turn playing the iconic role, adding, “It’s such an honour to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters who other actors get to have a go at playing. And I think she’ll do something incredible with it.”
Margot’s remarks come just months after she explained why she wouldn’t be reprising the iconic role anytime soon.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, she explained that she was ready to take a “break” from portraying the fictional psychiatrist-turned-vigilante.
“I was like, ‘Oof, I need a break from Harley, because she’s exhausting.’ I don’t know when we’re next going to see her.”

Putting the DC character behind her, the actress now has her sights on another iconic role – Barbie.
Margot announced the new role back in January 2019, explaining in a press release, sharing that “playing with Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity and communication throughout a child’s journey to self-discovery.”
“Over the brand’s almost 60 years, Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president,” she continued. “I’m so honoured to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide.”
The live-action adaption, which also stars Ryan Gosling is set to be released in 2023.
