The season eight Married At First Sight reunion kicked off with a bang at the dinner party on Wednesday night when it emerged that contestants Booka Nile and Jake Edwards shared a kiss over New Year’s Eve.

Jake’s ex-wife Beck Zemek claimed it was “the kiss that broke the camel’s back” but Booka Nile has shared what really happened when the smooch took place.
Speaking to 9 Entertainment, Booka revealed she shared a kiss with about 10 of her friends on New Year’s Eve and one was Jake.
“I also kissed Beth. I kissed Beth, and Beth and Jake also gave each other a kiss. That was literally just like a tradition that we were… in my family and friend group it’s just really fricking normal,” she told the publication.
“The kiss did mean something. It meant ‘Happy New Year, Jake’.”
However, the rock musician and mental health worker did express remorse.
“I do regret it and I wish that it hadn’t happened because it had a carry-on effect and it hurt Beck… ‘Cause you know what does mean something to me: Beck. I regret it. If I could go back again I one hundred per cent wouldn’t do it,” Booka said.
Booka also acknowledged that “the way Rebecca reacted to the kiss was valid”.
“[Rebecca] felt those feelings. Whatever that brought up in her was caused by things that have happened to her in her past and also the types of people she hangs out with. We’re from different worlds.”
Beck also spoke to Nine about the infamous kiss and said that it was more Jake’s behaviour rather than the actual act.
“It wasn’t necessarily the kiss that impacted the relationship however it was more Jake and his accountability afterwards,” she confessed.
“Being blamed for it. I guess being told that it didn’t happen. It was just all the dishonesty that came with it over and over, not even one day after even though he knew I’d seen the footage.”
“I think that was where the undoing was. I didn’t want to be with someone who couldn’t just own it.”
Fans rallied around Booka on Instagram after she shared a photo of herself at the reunion dinner party.
“Coming in with a bit of a loaded gun tonight,” she captioned the snap.
“You are a naturally lovely looking lady with a genuine heart…a real example of a classy woman…deserving the best things,” one fan penned.
“You are beautiful Booka! Handled yourself so wonderfully tonight,” remarked another.
“I love how a peck between long term mates has been blown up hahaha,” laughed a third.
Booka and Jake first met in early 2020 for business reasons when Booka’s Sonic Minds mental health project teamed up with Jake’s Outside The Locker Room charity.
Photos of the pair resurfaced early on in the season with many wondering if there had been a past fling between the two but now Booka has slammed the rumours.
“I mean If Jake and I wanted to be matched together we probably would’ve done it in the outside world, would we not? We wouldn’t have been on MAFS,” she told Hobart radio duo Jimmy and Nath in March.
“We’re such good friends, I wouldn’t want to ruin a friendship,” Booka added.
“We have heaps in common but we’re also business partners – we’ve kind of friend-zoned each other pretty hard core already so once you friend-zone somebody it’s kind of hard to go back from there I feel.”
