MasterChef’s Dot McHugh recently tied the knot right in the middle of filming the cooking competition, and, er… talk about stressful! But thankfully, her wife, Katie, took the reins with all the planning, and the pair had the perfect day.
Dot told WHO that she and Katie first met eight years ago when the MasterChef star was living in London.
“Our first date was bar hopping and talking for hours,” she told WHO. “Katie made me laugh immediately, and the conversation flowed effortlessly. It felt like I’d known her forever, and we’ve been inseparable ever since.”
The pair recently wed in McKell Park in Sydney’s Darling Point in front of 50 of their closest friends and family, then hopped on a boat that took them to St Siandra in Mosman.

Dot wore a gown from Karen Willis Holmes.
“To make it uniquely mine, I worked closely with an incredible seamstress, Susan Bromley of Brides by Bromley, who custom-fitted everything to perfection.
“The brief was classic and elevated, but still very much me. Susan and I were a dream team, and together we brought that vision to life.”
Dot explained that it “definitely wasn’t the original plan” to get married while filming the show, but that’s just the way it turned out.
“I had always imagined being a very hands-on bride, bringing every detail of the day to life myself,” Dot shared. “But once filming started, that vision had to shift pretty quickly.
“It became about letting go of control, trusting Katie to bring the vision to life, and focusing on what really mattered. In the end, it made the whole experience feel even more special, a little pocket of calm and joy in the middle of the MasterChef whirlwind.”
MasterChef’s Dot reveals sweet wedding detail

Dot shared that she and Katie “share a deep love of food”, but not necessarily for cooking.
“I handle the cooking, Katie handles the cleaning, and we both handle the important job of enthusiastically debating what to eat for every meal,” she quipped to us.
“Katie calls herself a rubbish cook with a passion for eating, but she likes to join me in the kitchen every now and then, which I adore.
“Italian is our go-to, and our favourite date night is making fresh pasta together over a glass of red wine.”
While the pair often enjoy cooking and eating Italian together, there is one specific dish that they both adore — so much so, that it featured in their wedding vows.
“Pesto pasta has become such a staple that it even made a cameo in our vows,” she laughed.
The newly weds share their MasterChef ‘ritual’
Dot explained that married life has “been a beautiful whirlwind since the show started airing” and they watch along together.
“Katie and I have our ritual – we watch together throughout the week, and there’s something so sweet about glancing over to see her beaming at the screen.
“Sundays have become a family viewing night. We’ve swapped our traditional Sunday night dinner for ‘teas on knees,’ with everyone gathered around.”
