They might’ve separated, but as far as Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s families are concerned, it’s not over. According to an insider close to the former couple— who announced they were separating less than a year after tying the knot— their nearest and dearest are urging them to “view the split as a break for the time being”.
“Their families have urged them to take some time to breathe before they make any final decisions,” an insider told E! News. “They are both upset about how this has blown up and are both hurting right now.”

“Neither Miley or Liam have decided when they are going to take the next step of filing for divorce, because there is a chance of reconciliation. There’s definitely a chance that they will get back together,” the source added.
According to the insider, the ‘Slide Away’ singer and Australian actor are “trying not to communicate and really give each other space” as they focus on their own business endeavours. However, having recently cancelled his promotional tour for his upcoming movie, Killerman, it appears the “heartbroken” Australian actor is struggling to move on.
The Hunger Games star was said to be “not in the right head space to step back into the limelight“, a source told the British press.
Meanwhile, Miley has been spending time in the studio, and recently released a new single in which the artist reflects on her split from Liam, calling for a happier and healthier life. In the touching ballad — which is her first new material since “On A Roll”— Miley blamed Liam’s partying habits for their split. The artwork accompanying ‘Slide away’— which features a collection of whisky bottles and pills floating in the water— also seems to imply these substances played a part in the demise of their decade long relationship.
Since vocalising that Liam allegedly parties too hard, dozens of insiders have dished on their nasty breakup, with many admitting drug abuse and infidelity was at the heart of their bitter split.
According to TMZ, sources on the pop star’s side say Miley desperately tried to save their seven-month-long marriage, however, Liam’s alleged “drinking” and “drug use” spelled the end of their decade long relationship. The questionable source also added that Miley wasn’t accepting of Liam’s alleged party antics, especially since she’s “struggled with substance abuse in the past”.
The actor’s posse has hit back, claiming Miley’s friends are intentionally using this as a coverup “to distract from her infidelity and recent outrageous public behaviour,” the insider said.
Despite making out with Kaitlynn Carter hours after announcing she’d split from husband Liam Hemsworth, a source close to the A-listers claim Miley spent months trying to save her marriage to the Australian actor. They also said that the 26-year-old begged Liam to go to couple’s therapy, however “he didn’t come close to meeting her halfway”.
Although it’s believed Miley and Liam secretly split in June, it looks as though their relationship was tense long before that. Last week, WHO shared a video from May showing the “Mother’s Daughter” songstress snapping at Liam.
In the clip, Liam can be seen smiling alongside the pop sensation before he jokingly tickles her stomach. Miley, who was visibly angry at the time, took exception to his cheeky gesture, grabbing his hand and forcefully pushing him away.

Although we’re not entirely sure what she said to Liam when she shoved him, it’s clear he got the message loud and clear, quickly walking away as he smiled awkwardly. Miley— who obviously wanted to be the centre of attention— didn’t seem bothered in the slightest that she embarrassed her hubby in front of hundreds of people, shrugging him off as she ran her fingers through her hair and continued posing.
