Another day, another bout of drama concerning Miley Cyrus’ controversial views!
WATCH: Miley Cyrus drops NSFW video for “Mother’s Daughter”
Last night the beloved pop sensation— who has been busy promoting her new track, “Mother’s Daughter” and upcoming EP, She Is Coming— sparked outrage when she posted a graphic image to her profile with the bold statement: “Virginity is a social construct” splashed below.
It appears fans of the former Disney star took exception to the “social construct” part of her message, with many labelling Cyrus a “bad influence” for placing judgement and “shaming virgins”.
“Yes and placing a woman’s value based on virginity is a social construct designed by men to belittle and enslaved women!!!” said one fan in response. “Miley, you are too smart for putting out something as dumb. You have a responsibility toward the youth of today, for god’s sake. There’s nothing wrong with being a virgin. There’s something very wrong with people who think being a virgin is a problem.”
“Honestly, you shouldn’t be posting stuff like that. You should respect people’s choices and respect the fact that you have young audience too. It’s not okay to shame people that choose to stay virgin or anything like that!” a different social media user commented.
Another chimed in: “So true… and the fact that men don’t get the same treatment and judgment when they lose their virginity compared to women… disgusting but no surprising…”
Miley’s controversial comment comes less than a month after she and her actor husband Liam Hemsworth were caught arguing in public and subsequently hit with split rumours. Days after their awkward spat, the “Wrecking Ball” singer ranted at Glastonbury that she was “f**ing sick of men” leading many fans to believe that was her way of confirming the pair had called it quits.
Miley has since hit back at divorce rumours, setting the record straight.
The 26-year-old commented on a fans Instagram post which questioned the status of her relationship with the Hunger Games star.
“Miley sang the song ‘Wrecking Ball’ and she said, ‘I’m f***ing sick of men,’ I hope Miley and Liam’s relationship still going good but I’m not sure,” wrote the fan.
“It was politically directed,” the former Disney star confirmed.
