For the past two years, My Kitchen Rules couple Court and Duncan Hall-Eastey have doted on their rescue dog Ted the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. But their “furbaby,” as Court calls him, will soon have company.
The Melbourne couple have confirmed to WHO exclusively that they are expecting their first child in August. “It’s an exciting time to be a couple,” says Court, 29, the designer and owner of children’s boutique The Design Court. “You both have this real fun thing that you’re looking forward to and that you talk about all the time.”
Agrees Duncan, 34, a project manager, “I am really excited. I will be equally excited if it’s a boy or a girl as long as it comes out fighting fit and ready to go.”
The pair, who married in June 2015, found out they were expecting in mid-December and though they have told their closest family and friends, keeping it a secret from their MKR peers has been getting more difficult. “Because she is a lady who doesn’t mind a glass of wine,” Duncan jokes about his wife Court at various events, “she’s got to either sip a half glass or pretend she’s nipping mine, or she’s coming up with creative ways to make it seem like she’s still participating. She’s been a real trooper.”
Court teases back, “Dunc’s loved it. He’s like, ‘I’ve got an Uber driver with me 24 hours a day.’ He thinks it’s like payback because he is often the sober driver!”

An added benefit of having a child for Court will be inspiration for her children’s clothing label Courtney Elise, where she has had to rely on feedback from mums to adjust the position of buttons or the way a garment is constructed. “I felt like I needed to make mistakes and hear from mums, ‘Oh, that was really hard to get my child in and out of,'” Court concedes. “When you’re not changing the nappies, it’s easy to say, ‘Oh, skinny leg. Why not?’ I think that will be interesting, to have a child and be more like my customer, which I’m really excited about.”
Now Ted isn’t the only baby Court’s thinking of all the time. “On my phone it used to be, ‘Can I feed my dog blah?'” Court says. “Now it’s like, ‘Can I take my baby to the races? Can I fly at 39 weeks pregnant?’ ‘No!'”
