Mick and Jodie-Anne are two of the most loved-up contestants on this year’s MKR – you’d never guess they’ve actually been married 16 years!
“His mum lived opposite me and I used to sun-bake on the balcony of the house I was living in and he used to spy on me out the back of his van,” Jodie-Anne, 49, a photographer tells WHO exclusively.
“We met and had beers at my house – and three days later I was sitting in bed writing notes saying, ‘I think I’m in love with this guy. How can this happen in three days?’”
Mick came round the next day, and Jodie-Anne couldn’t help herself, telling the laid-back excavator driver, 47, she thought she was falling in love with him.
“I was like, ‘Oh my god!’ I wrote that on a piece of paper and I showed him,” Jodie-Anne laughs. “We’ve still got the note.”
Fast forward almost two decades, and the couple are still as sweetly in love as that first day they met.
So have they ever considered adding children to their happy home?
“No, we have no children and we did that by choice,” Jodie-Anne explains. “We love kids though – we’ve got nieces and nephews and they think we’re the best uncle and aunt!
“We give them red cordial and say, ‘See ya!’”
The couple admit that while they enjoy spending time with kids, they’re glad they made the decision to remain just the two of them.
“I was retired at 47, [and] we don’t have a mortgage any more,” Jodie-Anne explains. “And in Mick’s words, children are the most expensive toy you will every have!
“But when we moved to Torrumbarry, our family was everywhere else, and we knew we wouldn’t have that support. But I never had that maternal thing anyway – I was never busting my neck to have kids…we think we have the life of lives because we don’t have kids.”
