After three hilarious zombie-filled seasons, Netflix has cancelled everyone’s favourite series, Santa Clarita Diet. And according to the show’s Executive Producer, Tracy Katsky, they had no idea their show was going to be axed.
“They were supportive, ever positive, and appreciative of our work. Until about noon today,” she told the Hollywood Reporter. “Still, they were just one phone call away from being a perfect studio. Not bad. Everything ends. This was a thing. And so it ended.”

The streaming giant announced the devastating news over the weekend, less than a month after season three premiered.
“The world has never known a ‘zom-com’ until Santa Clarita Diet, and we’re indebted to creator Victor Fresco for bringing this idea to Netflix,” Netflix said in a statement. “To their endless credit, the incredible Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant were totally game, with an uncanny knack for comedy that brought Sheila and Joel Hammond to vibrant life, even though one of them was undead.”
Star of the show and Executive Producer, Drew Barrymore, also penned a letter to the show’s fans via Instagram, writing: “Of all of the characters I’ve ever been, Sheila Hammond is one of my favorites. She and Joel were an amazing couple, who had shared goals. And I am lucky to have worked alongside Tim Olyphant. It was an honor to get to do something so delightful. Sheila lives forever in me. And I am grateful to Victor Fresco, who created a world so unique.”
The hit series followed married realtors Sheila (Barrymore) and Joel (Tim Olyphant) as they raise their daughter in the small town of Santa Clarita, California. While the family appears to live a normal life, they’re hiding a secret — Shiela is a flesh-eating zombie who’s hungry for blood!
Late last year, Barrymore opened up about her role, telling People the show was “liberating”.
“It was really fun to be her,” she said at the show’s premiere in 2017. “I’m so into the awesomeness of Sheila’s wrongness, or living in her or saying whatever she thinks or feels.
R.I.P, Santa Clarita Diet— we’ll miss you.
