A ‘Packed to the Rafters’ re-boot is coming!

Packed to the Rafters fans, rejoice! Amazon Prime Video is bring back the much-loved family TV drama in 2020.

The beloved show ran for six years until July 2013, and the new season will pick up where the old one left off. 

The reboot is set to feature original cast members, including Jessica Marais (Rachel), Rebecca Gibney (Julie), Erik Thomson (Dave), Hugh Sheridan (Ben), Angus McLaren (Nathan), Michael Caton (Ted Taylor) and George Houvardas (Nick Karandonis).

However there’s currently no word on whether James Stewart (Jake) or Ryan Corr (Coby) will be making a comeback.

The show was well-loved by viewers, won 13 Logie Awards and even boasted a real-life couple in Jessica Marais and James Stewart, who met on-set in 2009.

The pair were together for six years, and had their daughter Scout, before splitting in 2015.

It will have been six years since the show was last on screens, and there’ve been a few changes in the family since then. 

“Dave and Julie have created a new life in the country with the youngest daughter Ruby,” the Amazon synopsis states.

“The older Rafter children face new challenges and Grandpa Ted struggles to find his place.

“As Dave enjoys his newfound freedom, Julie must reconcile her responsibilities to the family.

“They might not be under the same roof, but the same honesty, love and laughter bonds them more tightly now than ever before.”

Packed to the Rafters marks a new era as Amazon’s first scripted Australian Amazon Original series.

“Since we began producing international originals, Packed to the Rafters has been at the top of the list of scripted series we’ve wanted to commission,” said James Farrell, Vice President of International Originals at Amazon Studios in a statement to Media Week.

“Packed to the Rafters is among the most beloved Australian series and this revival will allow us to give our customers the locally relevant entertainment they want, he added”
