It’s the day after the AACTA Awards and Phoebe Tonkin is on set with an amount of energy that should be illegal, particularly because she’d had a big night catching up with her Safe Harbour co-stars.
“A bright red lip helps,” she tells WHO.

The 29-year-old is one of Australia’s best expats, making a name for herself in the hugely popular TV show The Vampire Diaries, but Tonkin is not letting fame get to her.
Speaking to WHO, the actress opens up about her latest project, Bloom, her take on Australia’s refugee debacle and exactly why she refuses to pose naked for the sake of being “the hot girl”.
What is the one thing you will never do on screen?
There’s not a lot that I wouldn’t do. I think any nudity or sexual action that is gratuitous or makes no sense, I am a little bit of a …
I really value when nudity is needed. I don’t think people have sex holding sheets up or covering themselves – especially when you are trying to show something real.
I don’t think I would do nudity to be the ‘hot girl’ or to serve some man’s dream something. I don’t think
I would do that, but I’m not against nudity and sexuality if it is for the right reasons.
What has been your most memorable audition?
Actually, there was one, years ago, that I got in there and I just couldn’t remember the lines to save my life.
And instead of sort of saying like listen this is not going well I don’t really know the lines, I pretended I’d got really sick in the middle of it. I was like “Oh my God!” I was crouching and holding my stomach. I was like, “I’m so sorry to do this, but I’m going to vomit I have to leave and walk out.
So you didn’t get that part?
I did not get that part, no. [Laughs]
You did show your acting skills though.
Yes! By the way, they should’ve given me the job because they believed that I was sick.
