How FBoy Island is changing the game for women, according to Abbie Chatfield

"FBoys are everywhere..."

Not many people knew what to expect when Abbie Chatfield announced she would host FBoy Island Australia back in 2023, but the Aussie reality TV star, who shot to fame during Matt Agnew’s season of The Bachelor in 2019, was certain it would be a hit.

“I think the format is perfect for Australians because it’s our perfect sense of humour,” Chatfield, 29, tells WHO. “We’re very self-deprecating and we have hectic tall poppy syndrome. We also have a lot of FBoys here – we’re FBoy kingdom!”

After a successful debut, the show is back for a second season, with three new women ready to sniff out the FBoys on their journey to find true love. And while the show will follow the same format, Chatfield teases that the tone is completely different this time around.

“I think this season we are more love-focused,” she explains. “Last season, the girls found love in a hopeless place, but [this season] they’re way more focused on finding love as the main priority, and then f–king over the FBoys, whereas I think last year, it was the other way around.”

Although the show contains all the elements of a juicy reality dating program – eliminations, group dates and a whole lot of drama – FBoy Island flips the traditional format on its head, putting the women firmly in charge.

“It takes a lot for people to question someone’s intentions [on other reality shows], but we’re very self-aware here at FBoy Island and we know that people come on reality shows for ulterior motives,” Chatfield explains. “I think it’s a great environment to call that out and question people’s behaviour, and I hope people watching can learn something and be more aware that FBoys are everywhere.”

Some have suggested Chatfield’s public romance with Hyde feels like “too much too soon”. “Well I’ve known him for two years. We’ve been dating six months … so I’m not sure how you think you know it’s too soon,” she
told Stellar. (Credit: Instagram)

As Chatfield gears up for Season 2, there is one glaringly obvious difference from last time she fronted the camera. She has found love herself and is in a relationship with Peking Duk frontman Adam Hyde.

“Things are going well for me right now in terms of my dating life, and maybe we can put it down to what I’ve learned on this show,” she laughs. “I’ve seen all the different kinds of Fboys out there and it’s given me a bit more confidence, but also a bit more fear in equal measure.”

FBoy Island Australia S2 premieres on Mon., Aug. 5 on BINGE. Stream it on BINGE from $10/mth, with a 7-day free trial.
