When Bachelor in Paradise star Paddy Colliar first arrived on the reality TV scene, it was as one of Ali Oetjen’s suitors on The Bachelorette.
He didn’t get far with Ali, but he did become known for some heated clashes and his catch phrases – most notably the word ‘fit’. Paddy then exited the program amid controversy, revealing some truly eyebrow-raising information about himself that unsurprisingly hadn’t been given airtime by producers.
First introduced as a soccer player and gym manager, Paddy’s ball skills failed to win Ali’s heart – but he remained the centre of attention as he regularly stirred the pot in the mansion, resulting in a few ugly scenes.
Most memorably, Paddy, 27, and 23-year-old Nathan Favro clashed viciously after Paddy was told that Nathan was talking about him behind is back.
‘I’m not going to say that’s not me because that one hundred per cent is,’ Paddy told E! News.
‘I was myself when I walked in, and I was myself when I walked out. I’m not going to sit here and make excuses because that’s not me. I am a bit of a loose cannon, but I also have a lot of different sides to me.’
Paddy was less than complimentary about Ali after leaving the show, writing on social media: ‘It’s safe to say I had more of a connection with the alpaca in the backyard, than I did with Ali.’
When he left the airwaves, his tawdry revelations – that he was a stripper with supposed ties to a brothel – managed to keep him in the headlines.
In an interview with an Australian publication, he expressed his annoyance at the career sacrifices he’d made to woo Ali.
‘I had to stop stripping, the brothel that I run had to stop,’ he was quoted as saying. ‘I had so much to give up.
‘That’s what I said to Ali – I gave up the brothel [for this].’
Paddy was revealed to be an employee of ‘Magic Men Australia’, which claims to offer ‘Australia’s number one ladies night’ and consists of a group of male dancers, strippers and topless waiters.
The website for the business claims, ‘Each Magic Man has the body, the moves and the charisma to excite and delight – delivering more than just a set routine.
‘Our male strippers are also talented dancers, and will tailor a smart and sexy show to perfectly suit your tastes.’
Despite his past, Paddy claims that he is serious about looking for love.
‘I think in the past, I’ve been scared of commitment,’ he says. ‘I want to be able to overcome that barrier and whether that’s with Ali, time will tell.’
How far will he go on Bachelor in Paradise in 2019? Only time will tell.
