It first went to air in Australia in 2001 on Network Ten, before returning for a short run on the Nine network.

The show was last in the headlines in Australia after six youths were arrested over a fire that has destroyed a building famous for being the original Gold Coast set of reality television series Big Brother.

The Gold Coast Bulletin reported that the fire was so fierce, five police vehicles and six firefighter crews were on the scene as the fire tore through the property.

The now abandoned property – which was the site of the hit show Big Brother for 11 seasons – has since decayed and been vandalised, and is owned by Queensland Investment Corporation.

Former Big Brother host Gretel Killeen, 56, addressed speculation about the return of BB on KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O show on Monday.

“I think it would be a hoot!” she said.

“[But] reality TV can attract a different type of person now who wants to be famous, so perhaps that level of purity, maybe the time has passed … But maybe that’s a matter of casting and redefining what the value system is and what people are trying to achieve from it.”
